Wisconsin: If you'd like to stay a while, our beautiful state boasts many attractions, several state parks, thousands of miles of hiking and biking trails, and gorgeous natural scenery including prairies, forests, and bluffs.

Mount Horeb (Half an hour from Madison)- Mount Horeb is a quaint little town that Katie and Paxie love to visit. It's famous for the trolls that decorate the city in various forms. It's the home of Duluth Trading Company (complete with flagship store) and has fantastic shops like a three story antique store, Telsaan Teas and Spellerific.

New Glarus (Forty-five minutes from Madison) - New Glarus was founded by Swiss and German immigrants, and they worked to make the town a reminder of their homeland. Many buildings are created to look like traditional Swiss architecture, and there is authentic German food, a shop selling hand-made Polish pottery, and a living historical village with demonstrations. It's also home of New Glarus Brewery, which makes Spotted Cow beer.

Wisconsin Dells (Forty-five minutes from Madison) - Wisconsin Dells has long been a tourist and vacation destination for Wisconsinites as well as people from neighboring states. The town boasts multiple resorts, an outlet mall, several waterparks, a Greek Mythology theme park, a Ripley's Believe It or Not museum, boat tours down the Wisconsin River (I recommend the Ducks) and Tommy Bartlet Exploratory, an interactive science and robotics museum.

The House on the Rock (in Spring Green, 1 hour from Madison) - How does one describe the House on the Rock? It is a museum, an experience, and one of the weirdest, coolest, most unique places on earth. It started as a museum in an historical house perched atop a bluff, and expanded over the decades to include incredible displays like a life size blue whale statue devouring a ship, a recreation of the Streets of Old Milwaukee, collections of thousands of various items and curios, and the largest carousel in the world. It's also the home of the Infinity Room, a suspended glass hallway that carries visitors out over a sheer drop over the bluffs. Plan to spend an entire day if you want the full experience.

Milwaukee (1.5 hours from Madison) - The largest city in Wisconsin, located on Lake Michigan, Milwaukee has an excellent art museum, natural history museum, large zoo, theaters, unique buildings, historic mansions and galleries. Milwaukee has a large and diverse immigrant population that reflects in its shops, restaurants, and neighborhoods. It's also the home of the Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and the Bronze Fonz, pictured above.

Other points of interest include the Circus World Museum in Baraboo, Devil's Lake State Park, Ten Chimneys National Monument in Genesee Depot, the Columbus Antique Mall and Museum, the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, Old World Wisconsin, a living historical village in Eagle, and Frank Lloyd Wright's home, Taliesin, in Spring Green.
