There’s a little more to the story than that…
We originally met through friends and kept running into each other at group events. The first year, I didn’t notice him much. He seemed quiet, but slowly I saw through game nights and group trips that he had a fun-loving silly side and was always willing to help others.

I also kept hearing good things about him from friends in his hall. Once, in particular someone directly said:
“如果有人在找老公我最推荐 Bill Yao!”
(Translation: “If anyone is looking for a husband, I highly recommend Bill Yao!”)

Him: 我不記得誰說這句話。但我記得我一開始就留意到妳。
(Translation: I don’t remember who said that. But, I do remember that I always noticed her.)

Her: Over my second year back in the US, I started noticing more and more things that I liked about him until curiosity got the best of me and I asked the person who had recommended him as a good husband candidate why they thought so highly of him.

Through that conversation it became clear we both had feelings for each other and our friends helped us express those feelings to each other.

In August 2023 I got a text asking “你要不要跟我去外面？”
(Translation: Do you want to go out with me?)

I didn’t have to think before I answered “我愿意。”
(Translation: I want to.)
