In typical high school sweetheart fashion, Isabel and Peter first got to know each other through high school geometry. As a freshman, Isabel helped Peter with his math which was the starting point for their connection. Their relationship deepened throughout high school and with involvement in their youth group at Berean Baptist Church.
The turning point occurred in the fall of Isabel’s junior year. In classic awkward church kids fashion, the sparks really started to fly during a conversation about Oreos at a church event. It was the first one-on-one conversation they had ever had, but it was enough for Peter to start to have feelings for Isabel. Their “friendship” grew with increased interactions at school, church, texting, and even prom. Those interactions provided glimpses of each other’s character, speech, and how they treated others. Seeing this produced even greater mutual admiration.
After months of crushing that would be, and was, perfectly obvious to everyone but them, they sat down to talk about their relationship. It was during a conversation at Panera that they both told each other their feelings - that they very much liked each other. Despite this, they decided to refrain from dating, and instead, chose to remain friends during Peter’s first year of college and Isabel’s Senior year of high school.
Covid abruptly disrupted Peter’s Freshman year of college and sent him back to Lakeville, with Isabel. It didn’t take long for Peter to formally ask Isabel to be his girlfriend. And just like that, the long-anticipated relationship began.
After a couple of years of distance while they were at their respective universities, Peter eventually graduated and returned to MN for law school. This transition out of distance allowed them to deepen their relationship in person. Peter planned a surprise proposal on October 6th in Duluth, and the rest is history.
While there is more to their journey and undoubtedly more to come, Isabel and Peter have profound gratitude for the Lord’s hand in their relationship. They are thankful for His intimate presence in their lives and the countless individuals who have played a role in shaping their story.
