Medellin is generally a safe city, but as a piece of advice, it's wise to exercise caution and make informed choices about certain things or places.
1) Do not give money to beggars: Especially on Calle 10, you'll encounter many people asking for money. Avoid putting yourself in a risky situation by not taking out your wallet to give money to others.
2) Keep your belongings visible: Carry your wallet in your front pockets, as well as your phone and documents, especially when you are in crowds.
3) Avoid buying from street vendors: Minimize interaction with street vendors. Some of them are known to offer drugs or may take advantage if they see valuable belongings outside your sight.
4) Do not accept drinks from strangers: It's not common for a stranger to invite you for a drink in Medellin. If they do, be cautious and for safety reasons, do not accept.
5) Request sealed drinks: If you order a bottle of a drink, ask to have it opened and poured at your table to ensure you have complete control over what you are consuming.
6) Travels Safely: Avoid talking on the phone while walking in the street, and if you're going to use a taxi, make sure it's from a reputable app or company. Do not use just any street taxi. Preferably, use the taxis from the hotel where you are staying.
7) Jewelry and Valuables: Refrain from wearing expensive jewelry or watches in a conspicuous manner.
