In 2017, amidst the vibrant energy of Rising Arts Leaders, a nonprofit group fostering connections among arts professionals, our paths first crossed. Polly, with her sharp wit and unparalleled charm, thought I was a bit eccentric—maybe even with a screw loose, as she put it. But from those initial encounters grew a friendship forged in shared passions and countless late-night conversations.

We quickly became inseparable, texting constantly and attending every show we could, often ending our nights at The Whistle Stop, our favorite bar. Polly's presence became a beacon of joy, especially during the darkest times. The day my grandmother passed away, she was the only one who made me smile, a testament to her unwavering support, infectious spirit, and her appreciation of a dirty joke.

Just before the pandemic changed the world, our friendship blossomed into a romantic relationship. Navigating love during a time of unprecedented isolation, we found creative ways to stay connected. We would meet in parks, donning masks and face shields, enduring the discomfort just to be together. Dates in her parents’ garage, separated by a six-foot folding table, became cherished memories of perseverance and affection.

Our adventures have taken us across the globe, from the picturesque landscapes of Vermont and the historic charm of Boston and Maine to the vibrant cultures of Amsterdam, Belgium, Paris, and London. We've explored the bustling streets of New York, the tropical paradise of Hawaii, and so many more incredible places. Even though we've faced the most anxiety-inducing situations on these travels, I wouldn’t want to go through them with anyone else.

Our story is one of unexpected beginnings, enduring friendship, and a love that thrives even in the toughest times. It is a story of growth, resilience, and the unwavering belief that together, everything is better.
