Us and our families are so looking forward to welcoming you to our wedding in September!
Some of you will have been to a Hindu wedding (or many) before and will know what to expect. For others it will be your first time, so we've included a little bit here on what to expect.
The ceremony will begin with Abhishek and his family's arrival - the baraat. They will jubilantly and enthusiastically and noisily dance their way to the wedding altar - the mandap - where they will be joined by Prianka, her family, and the priest.
The priest will take them through a series of prayers and rituals (in Sanskrit, and English), culminating in seven circumambulations around the ritual fire - saat phere or saptapadi - and an exchanging of flower garlands - the varmala ceremony - and then we are married!
After this, pretty much everyone will want to take photos with us, usually in family groups.
To make things easy on the day, we will have a list of groups and our wedding planner will call out names when it's your turn - lucky you.
Lunch will be buffet-style Indian street food, and as is traditional, will be vegetarian, and without alcohol.
We will begin the reception with a cocktail hour that will include drinks, canapes and light music. We will open the marquee after this for you to find your seats before the Bride and Groom Entrance. After dinner and speeches, we hope you will join us in partying until the wee hours!
Dinner will be a family style sit down Indian meal. The entire menu is halal and will have vegetarian options.
If you have any further dietary requirements, please let us know when you RSVP and we will make accommodations as far as we are able to.
