Although our wedding is in Sintra, Lisbon is the closest major city and is the best place to fly into. Humberto Delgado Airport should be your arrival airport if you're flying in.
Download bolt, a european rideshare app, as a quick way to get around. You can also use Uber but Bolt has better pricing. Closer to our wedding date, we will create a discount code for first time users.
City Mapper is an elevated version of Google Maps that provides users with multiple ways to complete their journey -taxi, Bolt, train, tram, etc. It is a very handy guide to manuever the city's public transportation. Download here.
Deciding between staying in Lisbon and Sintra during the wedding festivities can feel tricky but we wanted to share some insight and tips to help your decision making process. Regardless of your choice, Sintra is roughly 35 minutes away from Lisbon and accessible by public transport or Uber/Bolt. The biggest thing to note is that if you choose to stay in Lisbon the day of the wedding, the commute back will be ~55 minutes. Our venue is located in the middle of the mountain and there is only one road that weaves through it's entirety. What goes up, takes a little bit longer to come down.
Lisbon has so much to offer when it comes to food, museums, history and general activities. The most popular neighborhoods to stay are Alfama, Baixa, Cais do Sodré, Chiado/Barrio Alto and Principe Real.
Priscilla's Pick: Principe Real
James' Pick: Chiado/Barrio Alto
Sintra is a charming destination nestled in the hills about 35 minutes outside of Lisbon. The town is famed for its fairytale-like Pena Palace, an eclectic mix of vibrant colors and architectural styles, perched high on a hill with sweeping views. Visitors can also explore the mysterious Quinta da Regaleira, with its elaborate gardens and hidden tunnels, or wander through the narrow, cobbled streets of Sintra's historic center, where traditional cafes and local pastry shops offer a taste of authentic Portuguese life.
Our suggestion: If you can, spend your first few days in Lisbon before staying in Sintra for the wedding day.
