Our Story

In May 2022, Reesha and Akshar crossed paths at an anniversary party. While they were introduced to each other, a real conversation didn’t start until Reesha texted Akshar after the party. Their messages sparked into regular conversation and video calls. Akshar shared that he lived in Nashua, NH with his family and grew up in “New England.” He talked about his interests, such as watching sports and Grey’s Anatomy. On Reesha’s end, she shared that she lived in Washington, D.C. with her twin sister, Reecha. She was interested in traveling, art, and new experiences. Throughout their conversations, they connected on starting new TV shows together and their deep relationship with satsang.

After a couple of weeks, Akshar finally asked Reesha out for a date. They agreed to meet at a middle point in New Haven, CT on July 22, 2022. After learning what Reesha liked, Akshar planned a whole-day adventure consisting of an art museum, Yale’s rare book library, and ice cream and pizza. Reesha was thoroughly charmed, especially because Akshar brought her chocolate to make the day sweeter. They learned more about each other while silently wishing for the day to never end.

Soon after, they knew they had to see each other again. In September, Akshar came down to D.C. to see Reesha and together, they explored the city and ate good food. This was the start of a series of trips where they alternated seeing the other, cementing their commitment to doing long-distance while staying connected. They soon met each other’s families and in May 2023, they had a beautiful sakar nariyal ceremony in Massachusetts with their closest friends and family.

And the rest is… almost history! You might wonder - when did Akshar pop the question? They had picked out an engagement ring before the celebration of the Akshardham mandir, so that the ring could be blessed by their guru, P. Mahant Swami Maharaj, in August 2023. However, with Reesha moving to Nashua and starting her new job in Boston, Akshar didn’t get the chance to propose until early 2024.

He began planning in February and told Reesha to block off Memorial Day weekend for a trip. She was not told where they were going or what they would be doing (cue: wardrobe nightmare!). On the Friday of, Akshar drove them 1.5 hours through dense forests and winding roads. Finally, a clearing opened up to a tiny house with a cozy firepit, lush trees, and complete privacy.

Reesha was finally told that they were in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Their Saturday consisted of exploring the local town, finding bagels, and lots of relaxation. At night, Akshar told Reesha that he was taking her to a surprise comedy show. She dressed up for the night out, but was confused when they drove another hour deep into the forest. Finally, they arrived at the Glenn House hotel, a scenic destination. Because they were “early” for the show, Akshar suggested they look around and take pictures in front of the mountains. Reesha joined him down the trail and was amazed at the picturesque view. She stopped to take pictures but Akshar asked her to turn around so he could get a picture of her. At first, she complained of all the bugs and refused. Finally, she turned around – and found him on one knee. She was caught by complete surprise (see "Photos" page!) and she soon met the photographers, Austin and Tiffany. They did a quick but amazing photo shoot and made the couple feel comfortable despite the bugs.

The trip ended with another day of hiking, waterfalls, and a certain sparking ring on Reesha’s finger!
