If you arrive Friday or early Saturday, Washington D.C. is about an hour drive north should you find yourself with free time. Visit the Capitol Building or the White House, spend the day in the free Smithsonian museums, or enjoy a nice lunch on the Potomac in Georgetown. Just be sure you don't miss the festivities!
If Washington D.C. is too far away, Fredericksburg, Va., known for its historical attractions, offers a closer getaway. The quaint, cobblestone strip in the downtown/historical area boasts a number of antique shops and boutique clothing stores, fine dining and museums. Or, visit the battlefields or jump on the trolley! It's all about 25 minutes south of Stafford.
Just south of Washington D.C., about a 40 minute drive from the vineyard, Old Town, Alexandria Virginia boasts a strips full of high-end shopping and fine dining. Think Georgetown, but with more stores and right on the water. A perfect for Saturday morning adventure.
