What is Blithewold?

Blithewold is a 33-acre summer estate with grand views of Narragansett Bay and is nationally significant in American history as one of the most fully developed and authentic examples of the Country Place Era. The property features a 45-room mansion filled with family heirlooms, and is framed by a series of lovely gardens and ocean views.

What time should I arrive to the ceremony?

The ceremony will start promptly at 5:00 pm, we ask that you arrive between 4:30-4:45pm. Since it is a Friday wedding, travel time may vary and take longer than normal.

How do I get to the wedding venue?

If you are staying at one of the two hotels reserved for the wedding, transportation will be provided via buses to bring you to and from the wedding venue. The pickup location will be in the shared parking lot of the hotels. If you choose to drive to the venue, follow the directions located in the "travel" tab and park in the parking lot on site.

What time will the buses be leaving the hotel and the wedding venue?

The buses will be leaving the shared hotel parking lot at 4:15 pm to take you to Blithewold, and will be picking you up at 10:30 pm to bring you back to the hotels.

Is there parking available at the wedding venue?

Yes , there is ample parking located on site for you to park if you choose to drive to the wedding venue.

What is the dress code?

Dress code is black tie optional. This typically means tuxedos or suits for men, and evening gowns, dresses or elegant suits for women.

Will the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception take place indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony will be located in the gardens overlooking the bay to the right of the mansion. The cocktail hour will be on the lawn, back patio, and throughout the first floor of the mansion. The reception will be in a heated tent. All guests have access to the full grounds of the property along with the first floor of the mansion, and are invited to explore!

Can I take pictures during the ceremony to post on social media?

We politely ask that you refrain from taking pictures during the ceremony since we will have two photographers throughout the wedding. We encourage minimal cellphone use with the exception to pictures as we want everyone to feel present and in the moment.

When will the reception end? Will there be an after-party?

The reception will end promptly at 10:30 pm due to zoning ordinances for the venue. We have scheduled an after party located near the hotels at The Galley Grille for all who would like to go and continue to celebrate. The Galley Grille will be open to guests from 11 pm to 1 am. There will be pizza provided! Please bring a form of payment for drinks and all other foods at the bar if you choose to party-on!

Can I bring my gift to the wedding?

Your presence is a gift alone, but should you wish to bring a gift to the wedding, there will be a gift table for your convenience.

What will the weather be like?

The venue is on a bay and due to the time of year, it may be a bit chilly or warm. It's New England, who knows what could happen!

I have dietary restrictions/allergies. What is the best way to let you know?

If you have a dietary restriction or allergy, please let us know on your RSVP card and we will inform the caterer.
