Take the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad
Not interested in driving to Silverton from the airport? Take a breathtaking 3 1/2-hour steam train ride through the San Juan Mountains from Durango. The train departs Durango 9:00am daily and cost depends on the train car class. See the website for more info.
Visit the San Juan County Historical Society Mining Heritage Center
It may not sound like much but this mining museum is packed with history and artifacts from the mining days of the west. Most visitors come with low expectations and leave impressed.
Drive to Ouray
Known as the "Million Dollar Highway", this is one of the most scenic drives you'll ever experience. It starts in Durango, passes through Silverton, and ends up in Ouray, the "Switzerland of America".
Hike Anywhere
The whole reason we chose Silverton for this celebration is because we both love climbing up the side of mountains for their epic views! There is no shortage of hiking options here. A nearby HARD hike is called the Ice Lake Trail but feel free to browse for your perfect trail using AllTrails.com.
