What to See - and Where to Eat

Places to Visit

Campus:

While an obvious choice, Oxford, Mississippi is home to the University of Mississippi. Therefore, the bride and groom highly recommend guests make time for a leisurely stroll through campus. Highlights include:

1. The Croft Porch - where the bride and groom attended most of their college classes and got engaged

2. The Lyceum - the building in the center of campus that makes it on like every Oxford, MS postcard ever

3. Stewart Hall - where the bride fell in love with Oxford, MS and lived out her freshman year

4. Pittman Hall- where the groom lived out his freshman year of college

5. The Honors College - where all the smarty pants go to classes

6. Sorority Row - walk by Sorority Row to see some of the gorgeous sorority homes, and bonus points if you can spot the bride's alma mater (KKG)

7. Paris Yates Chapel - you will be familiar with this gorgeous chapel after the Saturday ceremony!

Downtown:

The Square offers everything from ice cream shops, to a small brewery, to coffee shops, to shops where you can guess how much the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom have collectively spent! Highlights include:

1. Square Books - the famous book shop where you just might catch sight of a famous Mississippi author

2. Lulu's - the bride's favorite shop for new shoes

3. The Growler - a fun spot for a cold beer and board game

4. Oxford Creamery - order a boujee ice cream cone or sandwich

5. Neilson's Department store - the perfect place to grab a souvenir to take back home

Off the Square:

- Tour Rowan Oak, the former home of famous Oxford author William Faulkner

- Take a walk through Lamar Park for a bit of fresh air and exercise

- Tour the University of Mississippi Museum, which is just a stone's throw away from central campus

- Day trips to Memphis, Tennessee; Tupelo, Mississippi (the home of Elvis!) or even Jackson, Mississippi, the hometown of the Groom

Places to Eat

As some of you might know, the bride and groom like to describe themselves as self-proclaimed "foodies." For those that are not aware, Oxford has the most incredible food scene with lots of NOLA/Cajun influence. A list of their favorite places is below!

1. Tarasque Cucina - $ : This place holds a special place in our heart as it opened our junior year of college and quickly became a staple. Located right off of Jackson Ave, it is locally-owned and serve the most incredible homemade Italian food, with a rotating menu based on local produce. Order to-go or bring in a glass of wine to enjoy with your meal (for a $2 fee you can BYOB and get a glass to enjoy it with).

Grooms' Choice: Spaghetti with a meatball added and the summer caesar salad

Bride's Choice: Sausage rigatoni, with homemade bread to share

2. Bouré - $$ - A well-known Oxford spot, Bouré is perfect for an evening night cap on their upstairs balcony overlooking the Square, or for a delicious shrimp po' boy for lunch.

Grooms' Choice: Bouré salad, add chicken

Bride's Choice: Fried shrimp po boy

3. Volta - $ - The best Mediterranean option that Oxford has to offer. Enjoy a frozen margarita during happy hour on the porch, or prepare to be unable to choose between all of the various appetizer options.

Groom's Choice: Dip plate to start, followed by lamb and beef gyro

Bride's Choice: Hotty toddy balls to start, followed by the spicy grilled shrimp wrap.

Insider tip: Their sweet potato fries rival those of Proud Larry's

4. Proud Larry's - $ - Probably the favorite restaurant of the bride's family, Proud Larry's is the perfect spot to enjoy a cold Coke and sandwich after a day of exploring the Square (and lots of shopping).

Grooms' Choice: Iced tea and the philly cheese steak

Bride's Choice: Meatball sub and sweet potato fries

5. City Grocery - $$$ - While affordable for lunch or just a drink at the bar upstairs, this is one of the more upscale Oxford options. This is likely because this is one of the most famous Oxford spots!

Groom's Choice: Whatever special sandwich offering is available

Bride's Choice: City salad, add grilled chicken

6. South Depot Taco Shop - $ - Best described as a local Chipotle! Beware of their margaritas, which you should ask to be served half frozen, half on the rocks, and then you are a true local.

Grooms' Choice: Nachos with chicken

Bride's Choice: Chips and queso and a margarita

7. Ajax Diner - $ - Look no further than Ajax if you are craving some homestyle, Southern cooking. Prepare for a wait if you try to go in the middle of a busy Friday night or Saturday, but it will be worth it.

Groom's Choice: Iced tea and roast beef and gravy po boy

Bride's Choice: Chicken and dumplings

Pro Tip: The best sides are hands-down the broccoli cheddar casserole and the red beans and rice

8. BBB (Big Bad Breakfast) - This is *the* breakfast join in all of Oxford. And fun fact- this is where the bride and groom stopped after getting engaged on the Croft porch Saturday morning!

Groom's Choice: Shrimp and grits, or Keke's breakfast burrito

Bride's Choice: Breakfast crumble

9. The Coop - $$ - While technically more of a bar than a restaurant, The Coop is the rooftop bar of the Graduate Hotel in Oxford. This is worth a quick trip just to see the immaculately decorated hotel and the view of the Square.

10. Saint Leo - $$- The bride and groom recommend stopping in here for a happy hour-priced pizza and drink! Otherwise, it can get a bit pricey.
