Colorado’s evening sun glistened off a young girl’s dazzling eyes, then magically tucked its rays behind the snowcapped peaks of the mountains for the final time in 2012. Beaver Creek snowflakes swirled, and tenderly melted on the warm hearts of two sweet teenagers that shared love’s first kiss in the reflection of the New Year’s fireworks. The sparkling display of color illuminated the memorable celebration and the lasting friendship ignited between Rachel and Ryan! A special bond held the fate of the two friends as time and distance stretched their lives further apart. Seven years later, in God’s perfect timing, Ryan asked Rachel for a date! Meaningful long-distance conversations formed a mutual connection while Rachel attended graduate school in Chicago and Ryan worked in financial investing in Fort Worth. Ryan’s gentle and kindhearted personality captured a piece of Rachel’s heart with each visit between cities. After Rachel’s clinical year at Medstar Georgetown, she began her Pathologists’ Assistant career in Atlanta. Rachel’s eyes were soon filled with love and tears until Ryan also called Atlanta home! When did they fall in love? Was it that first childhood kiss with fireworks? The late-night War and Peace book discussions? The picnic atop the Lincoln Memorial watching the Potomac River? Stealing a kiss through a Covid mask? Or while training Mr. Darcy and Mr. Bingley to be fine young cats? Moment by moment, Rachel and Ryan’s true friendship became love! Three years after their first date, Ryan knelt under Colorado’s setting sun and sweetly asked Rachel to be his wife, to cherish each other, and vow to live as Mr. and Mrs. Wenzel until they are parted by death. Ten years after their first kiss, they felt their own fireworks as Rachel said YES! God has blessed Rachel and Ryan with the kind of love that has its foundation in Christ, for love is patient, love is kind, love does not boast and holds no record of wrongs. Rachel and Ryan’s love will carry them through valleys to mountain peaks, because it is destined to last forever! Let’s celebrate this marriage!
