Our Love Story

Their story began somewhere between Florida State University and Fort Lauderdale, Fl&nbsp;where they&nbsp;both grew up. Although they&nbsp;met each other for the very first time while at Florida State, Matthew was about to graduate and Rachel was beginning her Sophomore year. They&nbsp;knew from the first time they&nbsp;met that their&nbsp;personalities meshed really well and they&nbsp;had a great connection from the start. In August of 2011 Matthew had heard that Rachel was in town&nbsp;before starting Fall semester. Of course, he couldn’t resist asking her to hangout. This is where things really started to “heat” up! During Rachels visit Matthew invited her to go out a few times with other mutual friends and they soon realized how much they enjoyed spending time together. In that short period of time they&nbsp;had already created some lifelong memories together. Rachel&nbsp;was soon on her way&nbsp;back to Tallahassee and at the time neither of them were&nbsp;looking for a relationship, never mind a long distance one. Little did they know as weeks and months passed they continued to make plans. One of those plans included a trip to a Music Festival in Tampa. This was their first “trip” together and although they both pretended it was just a casual thing they were so excited&nbsp;to spend more time together and it was the only thing they could think about.

As Rachel’s sophomore fall semester began to wind down Matthew and Rachel decided they wanted to make this official in December of 2011. From that point on their relationship continued to grow and was filled with plenty&nbsp;of road trips and adventures. They became very familiar with places like Orlando and Tampa as they were great central locations to plan a weekend of fun together. Although the distance was not easy, they both always found a way to not only make it work but make it really fun in the process. As if the distance wasn’t enough, Matthew moved&nbsp;to Bar Harbor, Maine for a new opportunity with&nbsp;his company. Instead of thinking about how far away it was both of them just accepted it as another chance to explore a new place together. Rachel was between semesters so they decided to take 10 days and road trip up the entire east coast together, stopping in every major city and exploring the sites along the way. 

 





After Rachel graduated FSU she moved back down to Fort Lauderdale and they both were so excited to finally have a “normal” relationship for the first time after almost 3 years of living apart. They didn’t even know what to expect living in the same city but it turned out to be everything they could have wished for and their relationship continued to grow. Rachel set off to get her Masters and Matthew continued to focus on building&nbsp;his career. At the time, both of them were living at their parents homes, driving back and forth after long days to spend time together each evening.&nbsp; A few months before Rachel graduated with her Masters they decided to move in together and their relationship continued to grow.&nbsp;&nbsp;The next big step came the morning of Rachels Masters graduation when Matthew gave her a surprise gift;&nbsp;it was her dream dog, a Goldendoodle puppy&nbsp;who they&nbsp;later named Watson! 

 





Now that they were moving past 6 years of dating and had welcomed their new puppy Watson, there was only one question left! Unbeknownst to Rachel, Matthew was busy planning the surprise proposal of a lifetime. He had booked a dog friendly resort&nbsp;in Islamorada, hired a photographer to hide in the garden and had been in contact with the GM and staff of the resort&nbsp;to make sure everything went perfectly. On the Morning of Thursday January 25,&nbsp;2018 they headed down to the keys where Rachel fully&nbsp;believed they were going to meet two of their good friends. On the car ride down Matthew was getting more and more nervous as each mile marker passed but also could not have been more excited. The best part was that Rachel actually had no idea what was about to happen!! When they arrived on property they sat near a fountain in a garden area waiting for the GM to bring them a complimentary welcome glass of champagne. While they were waiting, Matthew took out a photo book he had made, which was not unusual as they have made one every year since the first year they started dating. They began looking through the book page after page until they got to the end. The very last page of the book had a picture Matthew had taken of Watson with a heart around his neck asking “Will You Marry My Dad?!?!”. Matthew got down on one knee and asked Rachel to Marry him!&nbsp;She couldn’t believe what was happening and of course said yes as she jumped into his arms!! Matthew and Rachel are so excited to have all of their closest family and friends sharing in their special day. It is sure to be the best day of their lives!!
