How We Met

Picture of How We Met

In fall of 2018, Alex and I were just 2 high schoolers who loved going to football games. The Pirates were playing at North Kansas City High School and both Alex and I traveled to cheer on the team. The game started to become a little boring as we were beating the other team by a lot. I had a few friends come take pictures with me where Alex stood close by. I found myself sitting alone and was excited when someone came and sat next to me. Alex asked if I could share my blanket because he was "cold" (later found out he just wanted to start a conversation with me). Before we knew it, the game was over as we had got lost in conversation. He got my Snapchat and from there we couldn't stop talking. We both knew this was something more special than just a little high school crush.

How He Proposed

On July 3rd, Alex and I planned on going to Hot Country Nights in downtown KC to watch Outlaw Jim play, even though we aren't big fans of Hot Country Nights. That day, my parents were last minute invited to the Becker house to enjoy a drink before we went out. After we had one round, Alex's dad suggested that Alex and I check on the sweet corn. So Alex and I, with Clyde and a tennis ball of course, headed outside. After deciding that the corn was no where near ready, Alex tried to get Clyde to give me his ball. He did not want to give me his ball, but after some convincing, he gave it to me. I almost threw the ball right away but Alex stopped me as there was something written on the ball. I turned the ball around and read "marry me?". From there he got on one knee and his parents shot off fireworks. We took the celebration down to Jack Stack (our favorite) and still ended up watching Outlaw Jim and the Whiskey Benders play!
