Their story as a couple arguably started on 8/18/22 at a get together hosted by Saul and Jenna, very shortly after Rachel moved back to the DC metro from Boston. Michael regaled everyone with wacky stories of experiments and travels, very solidly reinforcing his mad-scientist persona. For her part Rachel presented an in-depth thought experiment with the use of Saul’s living-room whiteboard.

The next week, Rachel attended the beautiful wedding of a close friend, Hillary and decided that maybe she’d like to look for a plus-one for the upcoming wedding in which she was a bridesmaid. Having enjoyed spending time with Michael at the recent dinner party, Rachel reached out to Saul and Jenna, who would also be attending the upcoming wedding of their mutual friend Jordanna. She asked if they thought that Michael would mind if she reached out and invited him to attend a wedding together. Saul, in epic fashion, immediately walked out of the room, called Michael and spilled the beans. He then came back into the room where Rachel and Jenna were no doubt talking about books and told Rachel that Michael would be expecting her call.

The rest, as they say, is history!

Bonus story: Rachel and Michael met through their mutual friend Saul – and having both grown up in Northern Virginia have relished discovering other, previously unknown connections spanning people, places, and time. The coincidence count is ever growing. One funny overlap, though, was realizing that Hillary is also a shared friend. While Michael was showing Rachel around the MD Renaissance Faire, they discovered that Hillary had grown up in the same neighborhood as Michael, was lifelong friends with his sister Christine, and that his sister and parents had also been at Hillary’s wedding!
