Our Wedding

It all started with... well, Mr. Higgins actually. July 24 2022 - Rachel was in Raleigh at her parents house watching their dog, Higgins. In the recliner on Bumble, she swiped right on a profile (Mich, 24) showing a blonde girl with tattoos. It was a match, so naturally Rachel closed the app. A couple hours later, a message was sent by Mich: Something about music playlists. And the conversation easily flowed from there. Rachel asked to meet up, however Mich was going to trivia with her friends that night and Rachel would have to drive back to Wilmington the next day for her regularly scheduled haircut. They continued texting for two weeks and eventually deciding to be friends because two hours between cities just wasn't going to work. But there was definitely something there. They actually met for the first time in person on September 9 2022 at Crank Arm Brewery in Raleigh, NC. Mich picked it because she knew Rachel was into cycling. Rachel got there first and was waiting until she saw a tall girl bounce through the front door. Their first "friend date" had no awkward pauses (even when Rachel spilled a whole beer on the table). They agreed that someone at Bumble had messed up when matching them so well together. After that meeting, Rachel would randomly and conveniently come visit Raleigh every few weekends just to hang out with Mich for a few hours. Mid-November, there was a pivotal camping trip with Mich’s friends that brought them closer together. December, Mich happened to be visiting Carolina Beach with "no plan" to see Rachel, but gave her a Christmas present on this occasion. Finally in February of 2023 Rachel picked up and moved to Raleigh. Some may say she did it for the chance to actually date Mich. We may never know, but they did end up dating after all and that's what matters. They filled their weekends together with all kinds of events, new restaurants, and fun activities. They started officially dating March 20, 2023 but make sure to celebrate matching on Bumble annually calling it their "Bumbleversary". Three Bumbleversaries later, Rachel and Mich have mixed their lives together and forced their dogs, Charlie and Percy, to bond as brothers. Percy always trying to engage Char in play and well Char does his best to tolerate him. For Rachel and Mich's first weekend trip together, they visited Asheville, North Carolina. This trip sparked a many of weekend trips meeting each other's families, friends and exploring new cities during their 1st year together. In 2024 came their 1st big trip where they ventured out to Europe together, exploring Amsterdam and the Swiss Alps. Together with their families they have shared the holidays, birthdays, and every celebration in between. Finally, on March 3 2025, Rachel proposed to Mich in Joshua Tree National Park during a week-long trip to California. Three months later on June 13 2025 Mich proposed back to Rachel during a long weekend away in Acadia National Park in Maine. And that's the story so far! We are looking forward to celebrating our wedding with our closest friends and family in Asheville, NC!

Things to Do

There are a lot of great hikes within an hour drive from central Asheville, being an access point to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, and DuPont State Forest. If you are not looking to hike, driving to the top of Mount Mitchell is also an awesome sight to see. Here are some of our favorites: BRP/Pisgah:- Craggy Pinnacle Trail (1mi easy)- Black Balsam Knob via Art Loeb Trail (1.5mi+ easy)- Devil's Courthouse (1mi moderate)- Graveyard Fields- Waterfall Loop (3mi moderate)- Looking Glass Rock (6.5mi strenuous) DuPont:- “Three Waterfalls Hike” Hooker + Triple + High Falls Loop (3-4.5 mi moderate)
