Have you ever been completely overwhelmed by God’s goodness? Have you looked back across months or years to see how God worked through detail after detail to bring you to where you are? We have, and this is our story.

Alex and I met during my first year of teaching in the fall of 2015. Through the years, from then until now, we saw each other intermittently at church, where I was a new staff member and where Alex had grown up. In the summer of 2019, I casually joined a tennis league of which Alex was part. I came for fun with friends and to gain a new skill. I definitely experienced the first, am working on the second, but gained so much more. After I saw Alex, started talking to him, and played against him that first evening, I couldn’t stop thinking about him. I came back to tennis each week, not necessarily for the sport but for the man. I wish you all could have seen my (lack of) skill because I promise you would have been entertained.

On July 27, Alex and I went on our first date at La Reve in the Village of Wauwatosa. This charming French bistro was close to my Wauwatosa duplex, and I had loved going there for dessert with friends. I barely ate the day of our first date since I was so nervous. Alex and I sat across from each other by the front window and effortlessly talked for hours. The night felt like a fairytale, and I was captivated by this man. I knew I wanted to marry him.

We dated throughout the fall and winter, and made the very best memories. After a year-long pandemic engagement, our days of dating seem so simple and glorious. They were, and I’m glad we had no idea that the pandemic was on the horizon. After 6.5 months of officially dating, Alex got down on one knee on April 8, 2020. I met him in the living room of his new home- soon to be our home together. I have never felt so confident when saying “YES” and will continue to say yes to Alex every day of my life.

We’ve been married now for almost one year, and we often say we can’t imagine life without each other. We’ve fallen into step with each other. Though our paths are now combined and our lives are one, I’m thankful for the years we spent apart; those made us who we are today and caused us to appreciate what we have together. God has a unique purpose and story for everybody, and I’m so thankful for ours.
