There’s something so sweet about a love story that begins in high school and grows into a lifetime commitment. Rachel and Andrew’s journey started the summer before junior year when their best friends were talking, which naturally led to the two of them hanging out. One of those first hangouts turned into a beach trip in Fernandina, followed by dinner at Cheddar’s, and that simple summer day planted the first seeds of what would eventually become a forever kind of love. It wasn’t until October 21st, 2017, that they officially started dating. From there, life took them on different paths—Rachel headed to Georgia Southern while Andrew pursued an electrical apprenticeship. For three years they navigated long distance, proving that love can withstand the challenges of time and space when it’s built on friendship and trust. They celebrated milestones together, cheered each other on from afar, and never lost sight of the bond they shared. Fast forward to May 16th, 2025—a day that will forever stand out in their story. Rachel thought she was headed out for a normal Friday night with friends at Silver Bluff, but Andrew had been planning something far more special. He even managed to get her nails done beforehand, and while Rachel thought she was keeping it casual in a hat and t-shirt, Andrew gently encouraged her to dress up. On the way, he made a quick detour to the marina, saying he wanted to look at something. Rachel wasn’t thrilled about standing in the heat, but when she turned to head back to the car, there he was, down on one knee with a ring. Hidden away was a photographer ready to capture the moment, and when the surprise still hadn’t fully sunk in, Andrew led her to Silver Bluff, where their family and friends were waiting to celebrate. One of the most touching parts of their engagement story is how Andrew asked Rachel’s Mema for her blessing just weeks before. At the time, she had been recovering from a hospital stay, and Andrew went directly to her, sharing his plans and his heart. She held onto that sweet secret, never telling Rachel what was coming, and sadly passed away just a few weeks before the proposal. Knowing that Mema had been so excited and shared in the joy of this moment makes their engagement even more meaningful and treasured. By the time Rachel and Andrew stand before their family and friends at The Red River Estates in Waynesville, Georgia, they will have been together for more than eight years—101 months, to be exact. In that time, they’ve built a love filled with faith, joy, and the simple things they enjoy most: Sunday naps, time with their dogs, games, vacations, cheering for their favorite sports, and most importantly, sharing their lives side by side.
