The story of Rachel and Taylor begins in early 2019 in none other than Rachel’s hometown of Reno, Nevada. Rachel was meeting her friend, Grant Booth, for a beer, and Grant was bringing his friend, Taylor (the boys were in town for a golf tournament). Although this initial meeting was romantically uneventful between R&T, it was at the Little Waldorf Saloon where R&T exchanged their first handshake. It wasn’t until a few months later in July of 2019 when Grant attended beer around the firepit at the Warner household. Once again, he brought his friend Taylor. It could have been the lighting, the energy in the air, or the impeccable timing in both Rachel and Taylor’s lives. But it was this day that the unspoken- but undeniable- sparks flew (literally and figuratively) between them.
It was meant to be- Rachel had already accepted UNLV School of Dental Medicine to become a dentist in Las Vegas, where Taylor resided. It wasn’t hours after Taylor and Grant left the Warner firepit and household that Rachel received a text. You see, Taylor had qualified for a golf tournament in Reno. The text read that he will be playing a practice round on Wednesday, the day before the tournament begins, but his caddy (whose identity was later exposed as his father, Monte Montgomery) was tragically unable to make it to Reno for Wednesday’s practice round. Taylor was in desperate need for a caddy on Wednesday and had inquired about Rachel’s availability to carry the bag. Rachel, who was positive that this offering was strictly due to the fact that she was the only other person in Reno that Taylor knew to ask, agreed to help the young lad out.
Of course, this tournament ended up to be none other than Taylor’s very first PGA tournament (Taylor went on to earn his PGA Tour card in 2022 with Rachel by his side). Rachel mustered up a golf outfit, and met Taylor at Montreaux Golf Course for the practice round of the Barracuda Championship. R&T spent the entire day together getting to know each other. While Taylor golfed and Rachel carried Taylor’s bag, R&T maintained a constant stream of questions and laughs between shots. The day came to a regretful close, but Taylor had another trick up his sleeve. Taylor not only invited Rachel to the tournament starting the very next day, but also threw in a few tickets for her parents. Rachel, once again denying the thought that Taylor meant anything more than to thank her for caddying, accepted the tickets and brought her family the next day to Montreaux Golf Course to watch Taylor play. By this time, Taylor’s parents had also made it to watch him play in the tournament. It was this very day that Rachel and Taylor met each other’s families.
It was one of the most memorable days of everyone’s lives. A monstrosity of a rain storm sent the horn buzzing mid round, and Taylor, Rachel, and both sets of parents took shelter in the middle of the Montreaux clubhouse. Everyone was soaking wet, taking pictures of each other laughing, and having the absolute best rainy day. Although Taylor went on to miss the cut, it was very clear that things were moving further in the romantic direction when Taylor invited Rachel to spend the rest of the weekend with him and his parents and friends in Tahoe. It was by Saturday night in Tahoe that R&T acknowledged and admitted their feelings for one another. Although Taylor left back to Las Vegas that Sunday, the two were in constant communication following their unforgettable week. It didn’t take long before the two met in San Diego for a weekend getaway. It was only a matter of two more days together until Taylor asked Rachel to be his girlfriend, in which she said, “Yes.” After nearly 5 blissful years in love, traveling the U.S. and world together, one PGA tour card and a doctorate later, building and moving into a house together, and so much more, Taylor’s next question was met with another, “Yes.” This time, with a few more tears from everyone, and a promise of a lifetime together ahead.
