The paved parkway lies along the north shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene and has 5.7 miles of non-motorized fun. The parkway is part of the nationally famous North Idaho Centennial Trail, a multi-use recreational trail system that meanders for 24 miles from the Idaho/Washington state line.
The Route of the Hiawatha - Scenic mountain bike or hike trail is 15 miles long with 10 large and dark train tunnels (Nine that you ride your bike thru.) and 7 sky-high trestles.
The ride starts with a trip through the 1.661 mile long St. Paul Pass Tunnel, also known as the Taft Tunnel. It is a highlight of the trail that follows the crest of the Bitterroot Mountains near Lookout Pass Ski Area. The best part is.... it's mostly downhill with shuttle buses available to transport you and your bike back to the top. This family friendly trail is easily enjoyed by a wide variety of people from young children to super seniors.
Run by the North Idaho College Recreation department (a local secret) and is close to downtown. The rental location is at Yap-Keehn-Um Beach on 0 South Rosenberry Drive, CDA. 208-769-3290. Daily rentals from 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. The recreation department rents stand up paddle boards, kayaks and Hobie Wave sailboats. There are sand volleyball courts on the beach near the rental hut.
Rent an adorable electric boat that holds about 6 people to grill and chill. They deliver and pick up boats to Lake Fernan and are rented hourly.
E-biking is a great way to see Coeur d’Alene. In the Riverstone Area, Electric Adventures to ride the Centennial Trail and downtown. Hours of Operation are Tuesday - Sunday, 9am - 5pm.
