It's the proposal story for me, I'll try to keep this brief... PRE PROPOSALCody told absolutely no one of his plans, just his parents and brother. On a regular ol work day he told me he was going to happy hour with his friend after work. I thought nothing of it, just excited to get the TV to myself for one of my spanish series hehe. Well that lil rascal secretly flew to Boise for the day, completely unannounced. He rented a car, drove to my parent's house, and knocked on their door. Luckily, they were home, and he said, "I think you know why I'm here." They invited him, fed him beef pile, and said, "please take her off our hands, no take back's." He then flew back and was home before 7pm. THE PROPOSALCody had been planning this thing for over a year (ok babe I see you!). He had been saving for the ring, AND A DRONE!! He decided our summer trip to Italy and Spain was his moment. He had picked out the most incredible spot in the Italian Dolomites on our 6-day trek to be the site. Unfortunately, his perfect plan was met with an unpredicted monster of a storm. After his plan A and plan B spot were both rained out, we shipped our soaking wet hiking gear back to the US and flew to Sardinia early for our now much needed island vacation. Cody's plan C was renting a private boat and popping the question on the bluest water we've ever seen. BUT WAIT! It's the night before our boat day, we are at a ridiculously romantic farm to table restaurant relishing in the end of our incredible dining experience when Cody receives a whatsapp message from the boat rental man (it's 10pm). Mr. boat man says he's cancelling the boat reservation due to high winds the next day. Cody goes dark. I try and offer words of comfort as our boat day is ruined, but Cody won't have it. He is on the interwebs finding a new boat rental, his plans shall not be squashed. Now, some men might have taken these events as a sign, but Cody took them as a test - and passed with flying colors. Anything worth having doesn't come easy my friends! Cody is successful in booking a new boat rental. That next day oh captain my captain navigates us out to a breathtaking spot. He sends the drone in the air saying he sent it out to do a master shot of the island near us. He tells me to stand on the front of the boat to take some cutsie couple pic's before we swim... he also tells me to take the scarf off my head because I look like a Pirate?? Rude. He sets up his phone to take a self timer shot and tells me to do the titanic pose - to which I say HELL NO THAT'S LAME. He forces me to do it, I oblige poutily. He taps my shoulder and he's on one knee &lt;3 It was a total surprise and the happiest moment of my liiiife.

🚉 Step 1: Go to Madrid Puerta de Atocha Train StationThe train to Toledo departs from Madrid Puerta de Atocha-Almudena Grandes station, located near the city center.You can reach it by Metro (Line 1, “Atocha Renfe” stop), taxi, or rideshare.Arrive at least 30–45 minutes before departure, especially if it’s your first time there. Walk to the right of the station. Do not go. to the Metro part of the train station. Typically the train to Toledo is on platform 13, 14, or 15. Doublecheck the board with the train number/ departure time. 🎫 Step 2: Buy or Retrieve Your TicketHigh-speed AVANT direct trains without stops run about every 30–60 minutes, and the trip takes just 33 minutes .You can buy tickets:Online in advance (recommended) from Renfe.com (link at the bottom)At the Renfe ticket counters or self-service machines inside Atocha (they have English options).Tickets are usually €14–€20 each way. 🧳 Step 3: Go Through SecurityBefore boarding, all passengers pass through airport-style security — luggage scanners and metal detectors.It’s quick, but allow 5–10 minutes for this step.Keep your ticket and passport handy. Take a screenshot of your ticket so security can easily scan each ticket QR code. 🚄 Step 4: Find Your Platform (Vía)The platform with be on the bottom level of the train station.After security, check the departure boards (“Salidas”) for your train to Toledo — it will list:Train numberDeparture timeTrack (Vía) numberFollow the signs for “Trenes AVE / Larga Distancia” toward your platform.Once the platform is announced (about 20–30 min before departure), scan your ticket at the turnstiles to access the boarding area. 🪑 Step 5: Board and Enjoy the RideSeats are assigned (your coach and seat number are on the ticket).There’s luggage space above seats and at the car ends.The train is comfortable and quiet — enjoy views of the Spanish countryside!To find you seat:Coche = train car #Plaza = Seat # 🏰 Step 6: Arrive in ToledoYou’ll arrive at Toledo Train Station, a beautiful Mudejar-style building about 2 km from the old town.From there:Take a taxi (~€8–€10, 5 minutes)There's a bunch of taxi's that line up outside the train station that will know were the hotel is located.

Walking tour! Toledo is rich with fascinating history, take a walking tour to discover the city and understand what you're looking at. Hammam (Arab Baths): sauna, steam room, thermal and cold pools. Hungover? Go sweat it out! We went to <a href="https://medinamudejar.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Medina Mudéjar</a>, it was gorgeous and very clean. Other options: Hotel Abad, Eurostars Hotel, Aurea Hotel, Hotel Pintor el Greco. Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes San Martin's Bridge - pretty hard to miss, but get out there and get those pic's queen. You can also walk all around the top of the surrounding city wall, it's pretty wild, for legal purposes do not fall. Convento de Santo Domingo El Antiguo Underground Tour - Didn't even know they had these, but I spy several on google. Someone report back. Museum of Santa Cruz Catedral Primada de Toledo - I have a million pics of the outside... be bettter than me, go in! Alcázar de Toledo

Madrid Recommendations

Restaurants: Pez Tortilla: Really freaking good spanish torttilla and croquetas. They have both traditional flavors and fun/unique ones. Order different flavors and share with your peeps. CRAFT BEERS ON TAP (yes it's rare). There are multiple locations around the city, if you're in Madrid Centro, chances are there is one near you! This can be a quick and easy bite or a fun to place to snack and drink for a while. La Esperanza: Amazing traditional Spanish food. Cool and vibey space. You seriously have to get a reservation for dinner or lunch, dinner is a party and cocktails are fun! Large group? Reserve their room baby. Don't skip the cheesecake and thank me later. Toguita: Latinamerican-Asian fusion "with a twist." As with all restaurants in Madid, it's a freaking vibe and insanely good. Get that rezzy or regret it. Barruttia y el Nueve: bomb dot com spansh food, check out that 4.8 on goog maps as evidence CUATRODEOCHO: Spanish food! Not expensive, cute, suits your every need. Fismuler: if you're over in the boujee shopping area, here's an option Casa Macareno: Spanish food de toda la vida, apparently Rosalia's fave &lt;3 Tasca Maria Sarmiento: Tapas bar Bar Revuelto: Tapas, apparently a famous cod tapa! Calle de la Cava Baja: the whole street honi's. In the daytime it's picturesque so come even if you aren't hungry. Daytime or ngihtime this is your street for tapas and or bar crawl. If you can drink a caña at all 27 bars in one night, we will perform a knighting ceremony for you at our wedding. Mercado de San Miguel: an indoor market and food hal (Spanish food)l, super fun for lunch or dinner - everyone can get what they want. Lots of different food stalls, big space, all kinds of drinks, you get it. Lots of Mercados around the city, they are all great, others have more international opttions. If you didn't get a rezzy, go to a food hall. Honest Greens: You don't understand how addicted Rachelle was during her Madrid tenure. It's all organic and it's all delicious. They have so many locations now, if you are in need of a seriously delicious healthy meal (carnivore or not they got you) look no further. Their spaces are super vibey, but easy to get into - no rezzy's. Your perfect lunch spot, don't go without me please! And the sweet potato fries + beet cupcake are non negotiable. Tierra Burrito: Hungover? Starving and you didn't plan ahead to get a reservation somewhere? Find your nearest Tierra sweetie. So good, so big, and their spicy sauce is actually spicy. Burrito bowls exist, LFG. Chocolateria San Gines: a super famous madrid staples for churros con chocolate (if you haven't had spansih churros before, don't expect latin american cinnamon sugar ones). It's open 24 hours and if you don't end a club night here then you missed out. La Mallorquina: Madrid's most famous Napolitana (it's like Spain's version of a chocolate croissant, and Rachelle's alltime favorite thing) and bakery. Multiple locations, Plaza de Sol is the original and it's always packed - be ready to throw some elbows and have those coins ready mamiii. Manolo Bakes: multiple locations, monolitos (like mini choc croissants) will send you to heaven and back, please bring me a boxed of mixed ones. Toma Cafe: good coffee good breakfast! There are a million delicious cafes and brunch spots, wander into any of them, except of course if you want a big fat brunch you need a rezzy ;) Drinking: Angelitta Madrid: cocktail bar + foods Salmon Guru: really cool cocktail bar, POPPIN, maybe the best cocktails ever??? Bar Trafalgar: great cocktails and wine, cool atmosphere. If you are finding yourself more north, grab some dranks! Full kitchen as well, we heart the "solomillo de vaca vieja trinchado" El Viajero: 3-level bar with yummy food, each level is a different vibe, you're there for the rooftop baby. Sala Equis: UNIQUE! Originally, she was a porn movie theatre. Now it's movie theatre turned bar that does still screen movies! Great gin totnics, yummy snacks, wine, beer, come kick it a while. Things to Do: Retiro Park Puerta de Alcala: it's famous, it's in front of retiro, look at it El Palacio Real Plaza Mayor Plaza del Sol: the very center of Spain! Templo de Debod: Egyptian temple on top of a hill with a killer view!! It's always great but it's especially lovely at sunset. Bring some booze and a blanket, enjoy the performers, enjoy tthe people watching. Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum: Features a wide-ranging private collection that spans centuries, from the 13th century to the late 20th century, including works by Impressionists and Expressionists. Reina Sofía Museum: Spain's national museum for 20th-century art, with a major focus on Spanish artists like Picasso, Dalí, and Miró. Its most famous work is Picasso's Guernica. Gran Via: you probably couldn't miss it if you tried, but she's a pretty street with a lot of shopping and a lotttt of people. Bernabeu: do you like soccer aka football? Go take a tour my friend. Matadero: a former slaughterhouse turned contemporary arts centre! It's cool, walk around, check it out. A lot of fun day parties and concerts are hosted here, maybe you'll be in luck! Rooftops: so here's the thing... Madrid has SO MANY incredible rooftops. Aside from el viajero (which is a very chill and not that tall of one) i can't recommend any (though i hear the four season's is nice). In my experience (which are many), our group goes up, we get sat, and no one takes our order for two hours. Which like, a free view and then grabbing way cheaper drinks at a ground-level plaza isn't a bad plan either so fine!
