Colin & Rae were set up by Colin’s mother (Val) & Rae’s great aunt (Kaye); who are coworkers! They both somehow got on the topic of singles, and Colin and Rae were both mentioned in the conversation. It was decided that Colin & Rae might be good together. So, they made a point to mention it to Colin & Rae to see if they’d be at all interested in the other.
So (of course) a Facebook message of “heyy” started the flame…and many, many, phone calls occurred between the two. Once they (finally) went on a first date, everything that could go wrong…went wrong. On the way to dinner (within 5 minutes of being on the highway), Colin’s truck made an awful screeching noise, causing them to not only pull over, but for Colin to crawl under the truck and fix what was wrong. Once they were at dinner, Rae spilled red sauce on her white sweater within 2 minutes of eating. Needless to say, they both broke the ice with one another very quickly!
They ended the night with a few rounds of bowling & some dessert at Cafe Florentine. The next day, they spent the day together, and the rest is history!
Their engagement story is a sweet one too! They had already been discussing their wedding plans a few months ahead of time, and Rae (being Rae) already had a ring picked out & showed Colin with her ring size. They had signed up for a wedding expo at The Turning Stone to begin looking for ideas, inspiration, and really understand what they needed to know about planning a wedding. Little did Rae know, Colin had other plans in store before the expo. On their way into the event, Colin took them on a detour to the gazebo overlooking the water, and when Rae wasn’t looking, Colin snuck his phone out of sight and propped it “just right” to record every moment! He got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, and took her by surprise!
The irony in this (and what they still laugh about today) is that the night before the expo, Rae had said to Colin “you’re really going to make us go to this expo just as a regular dating couple, aren’t you??” Little did Rae know, they never were going as just as a regular dating couple at all.
