Who would have thought on a cold, overcast day that Nyika and Ramond would meet almost 9 years ago? Nyika stood atop the stairs in front of her dorms at Oral Roberts University wreathing in pain from a recent leg injury. As she struggled to make her way down the stairs, Ramond noticed she needed assistance and came to her aid. This would be the first time they would encounter each but unbeknownst them, this would not be their last.
As years passed, they would encounter each other more, through the connection of mutual friends, during those encounters Ramond would noticed Nyika's calm disposition and very focused demeanor, while she became more intrigued by him. Upon graduation from ORU their friendship grew and with the grow of this friendship came the birth of attraction. Both Ramond and Nyika were intrigued by each other beyond the level of friendship but it would be years before either said a word. Fast foward through many moments that could now be deemed by many as missed opportunities, the couple found themselves at a crossroads. The week the Ramond had finally built up the courage to take the risk of friendship and ask her out, was the very week that she would be leaving the US with no return date set in stone. This was the sign to them both that maybe it just wasn't meant to be, so Ramond move on and Nyika carried her feelings for him all the way back to the Bahamas, telling herself that in time those feelings would fade... oh how wrong she was!
After 4 months of being home and a conversation with a friend about Ramond, she realized that maybe the best way to move past these feelings was to combat them with the undeniable truth that she knew in her heart, and that was that in Ramond's eyes she was just a friend. I'm sure you've guessed by now (as you're visiting their wedding site) that again... oh how wrong she was. Nyika reached out to Ramond with her thoughts and questions and he shattered her surety of his feelings with only a few words "Yes, I have thought of you as more than a friend."
Their courtship began shortly after, with the guidance and wisdom of mentors, and 8 months later on a day neither one would forget, they chose each other as the partner in life they had both prayed for. The couple would then endure 9 more months of separation as their long distance relationship became a long distance engagement, but after months of prayer, paperwork, long nights, frustration, faith, and patience, here we are about to celebrate their union... and the rest folks is history.
"We've come along way in our journey from our first encounter to now and if we could give any advice to others both singles and couples alike based on our own experience, it's this... Pace yourself, be open to God's timing and plan, and don't run a head of Him. Lots of things may not look like you want it to or thought it would but it may be just what you need."
With Love, Ramond + Nyika
