The Proposal

Picture of The Proposal

It was a sunny fall day. Reagan has been enjoying getting to know one of Austin's favorite hobbies, hunting. This is the first year she will get to participate since she just completed Hunter safety this summer. It was the opening day of dove season, and the couple went out with 2 friends to a field to start the hunt. It was a great morning, and the birds were flying. Unfortunately, Reagan was still hesitant to pull the trigger. Little did she know Austin had a plan. As each dove was spotted, he would call out. Supportive of Reagan telling her to take the shot. She felt encouraged and started taking the shots. Unfortunately, she had miserable aim. Shot, and a miss. "No bird." Shot, and a miss. "No bird." Hours passed, but Austin knew his plan would come to light. Meanwhile, Reagan just thought hunting was awesome and that Austin was the most supportive boyfriend ever. Blissfully unaware of what was to occur next. Austin shouts out, "BIRD." Reagan looks down the barrel and pulls the trigger. She sees the dove go down. Overjoyed for only a second, she looked out into the field where it landed. It's injured. Panicking Reagan rushes to the field. She finally catches up to the wounded bird. The whole group is yelling at her "ring it's neck!" In shock and disbelief, she did what she had to do. Tears flooded her eyes. She turns around, shot gun in one hand, a dead bird in the other. Austin was on one knee. "Reagan Olivia Butler, will you marry me and be my forever hunting partner?" She replied with the only thing that could come out of her mouth. "REALLY?!" Laughter burst out from all parties. The grand plan did not go as envisioned but truly encompassed them. Reagan nodded her head. "YES!" She was so startled she didn't know what to do with her hands. Moments passed, and no movements were made. Austin leaps into action and takes the gun from her hand, telling Reagan she was allowed to put the bird down. Reagan giggles, realizing he couldn't put the ring on her finger while she was still holding something. More laughter and fun was had that day, but Reagan never took another shot. Mesmerized by the glittering sparkling ring that now sat on her finger. Happy to spend the rest of her life with the man who makes everyday special. Full of life and fun. Excited for years of laughters and happily ever afters.
