Q + A

Where to fly?

The two main cities in Spain are Madrid and Barcelona. Both are highly recommend to visit. Once you are there, you can either take a plane or train to travel to Alicante. Plane tickets are quite affordable inside Spain, and the train has a lot of connections with other important cities that you can visit as well. If you decide to take the train to come directly to Sax, you should look for Villena (AV). That is the closest stop to the town. But ask for whatever you need regarding transportation.

Where to stay?

Alicante is one of the best locations for the summer. Sun, beach and great food. The wedding will be close to Alicante (around 30 minute drive depending on where you are located). You can book a hotel there if you want to enjoy a few days in the beach. But the wedding will be in Sax so you will need to be there Friday and Saturday. We will also have a pre-wedding dinner on Friday. If you want to stay in Sax, we have hotel rooms available and we will cover the cost. Contact us for any questions you may have about hotels.

STAY FOR THE WEDDING

It would be better for you to stay in Sax on Friday and Saturday. That way you can come to all the events. Although we understand that you may prefer to stay in Alicante. We will make sure you have a bus that can pick you up Saturday to attend the wedding. There will be one specific location to pick up everyone in Alicante. We are working on finding a place to give you a brunch/lunch as well on Saturday with some music. But as the wedding is getting closer, we will be able to post more details.

hotels in Alicante

In the section "Travel" there are some options for hotels in Alicante. There are also apartments and Airbnb available that you can check.

What to do in Alicante coast?

If you decide to visit the coast there are a lot of places you can go. Alicante, San Juan playa, Altea, Calpe, Moraira. The beach and the food is the best. You can rent aquatic activities like jet skis, parasailing..., for an affordable price. Check online to find all the things you can do there. If you like nature there are a few hikes that you can do and a good waterpark nearby.

What to do in Sax?

There is not much to do there. It is a small town with local people. There is a castle you can visit, hiking you can do around the area and enjoy the local food.

Renting a car?

If you want to rent a car to be able to visit the area make sure you get an automatic car because in Spain people normally drive manual cars. The Alicante airport should have rental cars.

More cities to visit

July is one of the hottest months of the year so if you're planning on visiting different parts of Spain take this in mind. The North of Spain has a better climate because it is normally colder and the gastronomy is also one of the best in the country. Santiago de Compostela is famous for El camino and you can visit the Catedral, you also have Vigo, Bilbao, Asturias with beautiful landscape and great wine. If you go to Barcelona, it will be hot but you have the beach so that is a plus. You can go to La Sagrada familia, Park Güell, Monserrat Monastery or a tour for the Costa Brava to enjoy the beaches. I don't think English will be a problem is these places because they are all really touristy cities. You can also go to the South (Granada, Sevilla, Málaga, Córdoba are some of the best places). There you will find more flamenco culture and you can try drinks and foods that are famous in the area. And of course, you can also visit the islands. You may have heard about Ibiza, most famous for partying and going out. Mallorca and Menorca are really beautiful, but these places are expensive during summer season. Flying to other countries is also a good choice: Portugal, France, Italy and Germany are pretty close and the plane tickets shouldn't be too expensive.

Traditions in Spanish weddings

Some of the things that you will see in the wedding: 1. Rice: a the church you will find rice and you have to throw it to the couple when they leave. 2. Bouquet: we normally give the bouquet to the sister of the bride but we have decided to do the American style. 3. Bride and groom figure: we also give a small figure to the couple we think will get engaged next. 4. Garnet: as a tradition the single friend in the group gets the garnet. 5. Napkins: when the bride and groom enter the restaurant for the main dinner you need to get a napkin and move in the air. Here is a video: (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Guc2IphEe_8) 6. Presents: there will be presents for the guests during the dinner. You will also get other small gifts during the day. 7. Disco: we expect you to have fun, dance and drink. There will be a dj and open bar the whole time. Feel free to get as many drinks as you want. Sweets and more food will be served during this time.

Can I have kids in the wedding?

As you have to travel to another country, we are aware you need to bring your kids. We will make sure to have some entertainment during the ceremony time and also at the venue. We still need to plan the final details, but if you are traveling with kids, feel free to ask anything.

What to expect in the wedding?

We are doing a combination between Spanish and American weddings. The ceremony will be in the church in Sax with the bridesmaids and groomsmen. The ceremony may be in Spanish but we still need to plan this better and see if we can do something about it. At the end of the ceremony people go to the couple to congratulate them and take pictures in the altar. So, don't forget to come and take the photo before leaving the church. Once you go outside, there will be rice for you to take it and throw it to the bride and groom when they leave the church. Then, you will have to go to the buses that will take you to the venue/restaurant (there will be someone telling you where to go). At the place, there will be a coctel with food, drinks (open bar the whole time) and music. Then you will find your table to sit and enjoy the main dish (meat or fish) and the cake. During that time the bride and groom give presents to some of the guests. When the dinner is over we will go to the dancing area. Drinks, music and more food. As the wedding is at night, it will probably end around 4am. There will be buses available to take you back either Sax or Alicante (depending on where you are staying) and they will leave at different times. You don't need to drive to the venue.

Friday before the wedding

We are doing a dinner on Friday. It will be in Sax and we will have food, music and drinks. Everybody is invited. We will post more information about this whenever the wedding is close.
