Our Wedding

Where should I even begin? Nick and I began our love story way back in high school! He was the greatest love I could have ever imagined, everything I have ever wanted. We were beaming with young love, the real kind that no matter what, always stays with you. After only dating about a year, his family had moved to another school district. Although young and in love, neither of us were old enough to drive, and so the distance deemed too much, ultimately ending to our relationship. I was devastated and never truly “got over” him, no matter who or what I experienced through the coming years. Approximately a year after the move, he called my home phone. Remember those? We chatted and at the end of our conversation we made a promise that “should we ever find ourselves single again, we’d look for each other”! I did try and was unfortunately unable to find him. Fast-forwarding a few years, leaving us in 2012 I began a new career venture! After a few weeks of employment and meeting all of my coworkers and the members of management, I learned that one of the supervisors had the same last name as the young boy who had stolen my heart all those years ago. Could this really be happening? I remember feeling that he had married and how utterly saddened I was! It should have been me! I finally mustered up enough courage and asked her if she knew Nick’s parents and she said “oh yes! They’re my in-laws!” My heart sank lower than I thought it could. I was devastated. Heartbroken, again. She then asked how I knew the family, and I nonchalantly mentioned that I had dated Nick in high school, but we had lost contact through the years, but always knew that he was “the one” for me! What was I thinking saying this to her?! She could be his wife!! She was quick to relieve my fears  and crushed dreams by telling me that she had married Nick’s brother!! THANK GOD, I thought, pondering all the what-it’s that ever were! Within a few weeks of a budding friendship,  his sister-in-law and I had planned a “double date”! She suggested I went as her “friend” and that Nick would go with his brother, trying to play it cool. She had mentioned that he was away on vacation so our “Blind Date” would have to wait. Well, remembering our promise to each other years ago and being quite impatient, each moment that passed until his arrival back home was like a roller coaster of hopes and fears, old memories and future dreams. As soon as I heard he was back home, and I mean the very instant I knew, reached out to him. I couldn’t help myself! We messaged for about a week and decided on a day to meet up for a Polo match! How fun, and I was ecstatic! 
We met again, this time as adults (he brought a friend along, ya know “just in case” he wasn’t interested that he could pawn me off onto), but it was a fabulous time! We talked, laughed and reminisced. I couldn’t believe he remembered us just as I did. He was just as wonderful as I remembered, maybe even more so! We made plans for the next day, and have been inseparable ever since! I feel nothing short of being utterly blessed because after fourteen years, failed relationships on both parts and just living different lives, we found each other again! I came into our relationship this time around with two little girls that he (as well as his entire family) has accepted from day one and loves them dearly. What’s even more beautiful is that they love him just as much. Nick and I have also welcomed our son, and perfect addition, into our little family, and we couldn’t be any happier! I am so blessed to be living this life, raising our family along side my “high school sweetheart”, the one my heart longed for even way back when. I always knew we’d find a way back to each other. This time, instead of looking back on the ‘what-ifs’, our future is brighter and stronger than ever!
