We met on the dance floor. That's the gist of it. We know we are supposed to say something that could be found in the synopsis of a hallmark movie. That’s what couples are supposed to do, right? But the truth isn’t sullied with carefully marketed conflict or secondary plotlines. Our story, it’s simple. Like the early 90’s.

So how did it start? We both love to country dance, and in Dallas, Texas, the place to go country dancing is Red River.

The club was dark, and there was some kind of music playing in the background. She was wearing clothes, and so was he. It was either April or August or something in the Post-Bush era. There might have been a hat involved, but no one knows for sure. What we do know is that when he saw her, she had positioned herself on the southwest corner of the dance floor, eight feet to the left of him and one foot forward, facing towards the dance floor and parallel to his gaze. He thought she positioned herself intentionally as if to communicate, “I’d be open to dancing with you, but I don’t want to come on too strong”. He also knew she could have been standing there waiting for someone else, while oblivious to his peripheral gaze. All he knew for sure was that she was stunning, and he would regret not asking her to dance.

Turns out, she was indeed throwing a vibe towards him. And for the first time in the history of men, he interpreted the signs correctly (a credit to her though, her positional communication was so effective that night it would later be known as “The Losure Maneuver”).

They danced. They talked. They laughed. It wasn’t love at first sight- in his case, it was luck at first sight. He didn’t know what would happen to them after that first dance, but he was certain he wanted to spend more time with her. She felt the same way. He asked her out on a date. A few days later they went to a spin class and took a long walk. They didn't know for sure about each other, but they both wanted to go on another walk.

After each dance, date, walk, talk, and kiss, affection grew into mutual admiration. They inspired the best out of each other, and their love grew. Eventually, the permeance of marriage became a joyful proposition. So Stephen ventured off into the world to find a rock to give to Rebecca. Like the penguin from that movie with Dane Cook and Jessica Alba.

And that’s it.

Ours is a simple love story. Simplicity does not make it any more or less beautiful. It’s just the way God brought us together. We are overjoyed to commit to marriage. We are so thankful to celebrate with you. Our prayer is that the Lord will draw us nearer to his will and to each other. We are blessed to be standing where we are now. We will be incredibly blessed to be standing across from each other on February 24th. And it all started in the simplest of scenarios. We met on the dance floor.
