Life has a funny way of showing us that some things are just meant to be. On August 15th, 2017, during our junior year, we met in our high school theatre tech class during the production of Rent, The Musical. As luck would have it, our teacher paired us up on the first day and we instantly became friends. (Fun fact: At first, Matthew thought Remi was the teacher, since she stood on stage, clipboard in hand, taking attendance.) We became inseparable in school from then on, and we remained close during senior year and even after graduation. (Another fun fact: Little did we know, until we put the pieces together during senior prom, that we had met years before while attending preschool together!)  In college we continued our friendship, even though we lived in two separate places, not knowing that fate was about to finally work its magic. Matthew’s best friend, Ian, phoned Remi and Adriana – Remi’s high school friend and now college roommate – to confess on Matthew’s behalf the feelings Matthew himself had been too shy to admit. Then, after years of saying nothing, Matthew finally worked up the courage to call Remi in April of 2020 to say, “It has always been you.” Almost overnight, friends and family became “Team Remi & Matt,” and started to offer their encouragement. During freshman year of college, Adriana looked straight at Remi with complete confidence, and told her, “You will marry Matthew! Just wait!” Remi laughed and replied, “He is my best friend…but if he wasn’t, he is the exact kind of person I’d look for.” The Covid pandemic hit and we found ourselves back home continuing school online, reconnecting in person, and just seeing what would unfold between us. A few months after returning home, Remi’s mom, Rebecca, threw in her (valuable) two cents, and told Remi to “give him a chance.” It was after this that Adriana and Ian informed Remi and Matt that the four of them would be going on a double date to the beach, and Remi was told to just “get in the car.” Another nudge from fate and two good friends was all it took for Remi to realize on that day that she and her best friend were perfect for one another. And so it was on August 15th of 2020 that we mutually decided to take a chance on this relationship. Who knew that a pandemic that was separating so many would help bring the two of us together! Since then, we’ve experienced so many things as a couple, from loss to joyous occasions, and everything in between. We’ve had two graduations and multiple job changes, traveled to the beaches of the Dominican Republic and the Mountains of Colorado, and seen our relationship only continue to grow throughout it all. We’ve even moved a total of four times and are happy to now be in our first house together – one which has truly become a home. While on our journey together, Matthew accomplished his dream of becoming a firefighter and Remi achieved her dream of working in entertainment. Helping each other make our dreams a reality is a big part of who we are. Fate, along with our commitment to one another, were sending us down a clear path for our future. On December 25th, 2024, Christmas morning, Matthew proposed to Remi, with a specially engraved musical nutcracker and a lovingly selected ring. Of course, her answer was, “Yes!” (Yet another fun fact: Remi is an avid collector of holiday nutcrackers.) With this new, more official commitment, we continue to support and laugh with one another and look toward our future together with excitement and gratitude. We have a beautifully blended family and wonderful friends that have been an important part of this journey, some of whom sensed what the universe had in store for us before even we did. We thank all of you for the constant love and support you’ve given us, both on our individual journeys and now on the one we are taking together.  There’s nothing better than being able to marry your best friend!
