Our story begins with two emo teenagers growing up in rural Wayne County. Ken a skateboarder boy (yes, the type lady Avril Lavigne speaks of) and Renea with her jelly bracelets, heavy eyeliner and side bangs. The two were separated by a few short miles and met in passing at a local punk show. Renea speaks of it as love at first sight. "It was the spiky hair and his bright blue eyes" Shortly after that they spoke occasionally over AOL. Ken being three years her senior was looking to his future career plans and contemplating joining the Army.
Soon after Ken would join the Army and was stationed at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. Renea was 16 and in love, and soon after Ken was stationed in Georgia she told her mom she was going to a friend's for spring break, when in reality a friend drove her the 978 miles to see Ken. The car would break down on the drive back and her mom would have to pick her up at the Pennsylvania state line. Upon grounding her, her mom stated "You're going to marry him aren't you". She doesn't remember that but Renea never forgot. They would break up a few short months later.
The next few years (17 to be exact) they would remain friends and hang out a handful of times. It wouldn't be until Ken's birthday October 2021 when Renea sent him a birthday message stating "I'll always love you" that Ken would ask her out on an official date. After seeing one of their favorite bands (emo heartthrob Dashboard Confessional) that they would make it official on November 4th 2021. (FINALLY! right Bonnie?)
A month in they knew they were in it for the long haul and discussed getting married while listening to Bruno Mars late one night in Renea's apartment; "It's a beautiful nighttt, we're looking for something dumb to do... Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you"
Not wanting to rush into anything they bought a house together that April. Spending time together as a family with Renea's two children, they enjoyed adventures all over the state of New York, going to concerts, waterfall chasing, winter hiking, exploring caves, and thrifting books.
This past summer with Landon in tow they acquired their passports and headed out of the country for the first time. While in Florence, Italy they decided it was the perfect time to get engaged. With only a few hours away from the group they were traveling with, they made their way to "Ponte Vecchio", a bridge built in 1345, where they had spotted a cluster of jewelry shops. They quickly found a ring and kicked Renea out of the jewelry shop. After what seemed like forever, Ken surprised Renea and asked her right then and there if they could spend the rest of their lives together.
The answer was "yes" of course!
