They met the new old-fashioned way...online.
Rex swears Michelle took forever to respond. Michelle insists that two weeks is the perfectly acceptable amount of time. Eventually, a first date was set in Old Town Winchester, where they shared a charcuterie board (complete with a questionable marshmallow fluff situation) and a cookie. The connection was instant, and by the end of the week, theyd already had several more dates.
One of those dates involved kayaking on the Shenandoah River - an adventure that began with Michelle accidentally backing into a homeless man sleeping in his truck. Undeterred, she woke him up, exchanged insurance info (he didnt have any), and kept going. They met under the Route 50 overpass - a spot Michelle sincerely hoped wouldnt be the opening scene of a new true crime podcast.
Instead, they spent five peaceful hours on the water, spotting bald eagles, blue herons, and even a hidden river treehouse. During the paddle, Rex raved about the cookies from The Locke General Store, so naturally, they made a stop after kayaking. The cookies were ordered to go. Once back to Michelles car, she waited...but no cookie off came. Refusing to leave empty-handed, she asked for at least a taste.
Rex paused. Took a deep breath. Paused again.
And then gave her half a cookie.
It was in that moment - somewhere between laughter, hesitation, and half a cookie - that Rex knew his life had changed forever.
And the rest is history!
When they're not kayaking or sharing cookies, Rex and Michelle have been pouring their hearts into creating their dream getaway - Foxhole Cabin.
Rex is the visionary, the builder, and (let's be honest) the chief mess-maker. Michelle brings the design eye, the organizational magic, and the level of beam-staining patience that deserves its own medial. Together they've turned a plot of land into something truly special.
It's been a true labor of love - full of laugher, sawdust (LOTS and LOTS of sawdust), and learning - and they can't wait to share it with family, friends, and eventually...lucky Airbnb guests!
