Rick and Emily met on Bumble, a dating app. After matching, Emily had to make the move to message Rick because the girl has to message the guy first. With 18 minutes until the match expired, she took the leap and sent a message to Rick.

Rick and Emily texted and talked on the phone for a couple of days and Rick asked Emily to dinner. They met at Applebees for a low pressure dinner. The date went well and they both left with a smile on their face.

The next day, Emily and Rick were texting in the morning. Emily never heard back from Rick and assumed he wasn’t interested. Emily’s friend Erin encouraged her to text him again, to which Emily made clear that she doesn’t double text people. Erin encouraged her again and she finally texted him. Emily quickly got a text back with a text saying that Rick left his phone at a gas station that was a work account. The text said Rick would get his phone the next day.

Well, the next day rolled around and sure enough Emily got a text from Rick. He then invited her on another date. They enjoyed each other’s time and when Rick dropped Emily off he met Reggie. Reggie knew it was love.

Rick was quick to invite Emily out again that weekend. This time to a friends game night. Emily went and was quick to fit in with Rick’s friends from high school.

From that weekend on, they were basically inseparable, spending a lot of time together.

A couple weeks later, Emily’s dad set up a dinner for Rick to meet her parents. They went out to dinner in Detroit. On the way back, Rick said, “Let’s go to my parent’s house and meet all the parents in one night.” So they stopped at Saunders and took over some cream puffs.

Fast forward a few months, and Rick tells Emily that he needs to come clean about something. Emily’s heart dropped. He then states that he didn’t really leave his phone at a gas station the day after they met. He in fact didn’t think Emily was interested (after Emily told him multiple times she would like to get to know him more). Emily busted out laughing, almost peeing her pants, and Rick laughed a sigh of relief.

Rick was quick to fit in with Emily’s family, and Emily fit in well with Rick’s family too.

In March of 2023, Rick devised a plan to propose to Emily. Rick told Emily he was going to have dinner with his stepdad because his stepdad needed someone to talk to. He was really having dinner with Emily’s dad, Shawn. That’s where Rick asked for Emily’s hand in marriage and showed Shawn the beautiful engagement ring he had bought.

He then devised a plan with Emily’s mom, Tracy. Since Rick’s birthday was right around the corner, Tracy texted Emily to set up a night that they could take Rick to dinner to celebrate his 30th birthday. What a surprise it was to Emily when she walked in, with Rick’s birthday presents in her hand, to Rick and Emily’s family staring at her. She turned around to say “surprise” to Rick, thinking Tracy forgot to tell her it was a surprise party, and she was met with Rick down on one knee, asking for her to marry him. What a surprise it was!
