How We Met

It was a dark and stormy night. Riley heard a knock at the window. There, in the hailing storm outside, stood a man in a flight suit. "Dude," Riley said, as she pulled open the window in her pajamas. "What are you doing outside. Also, how did you get on the balcony?" "Plane. Crashed." Riley peered outside. Sure enough, a T-6 lay, explodeded, on the balcony railing. "Oh." "Yeah," Jacob leaned, seductively, against the window frame. "So, uh, what's a girl like you doing in a place like this?" "You mean," Riley asked. "You mean my house? I, uh, live here?" "Checks out, checks out," He looked around, trying to appear nonchalant. "Is your plane okay?" "I think it's broken." He determined, after a few moments of silence, as they both observed the rubble. "So, I'm basically free tonight, if you want to go to the movies, or dinner, or whatever." "I thought you'd never ask!" Riley beamed. "Just let me change into something cute, okay?" "Okay!" Jacob replied, as Riley shut the balcony window, leaving him outside. "I'll just wait here. In the hail."

But Really....

Riley and Jacob met via the Christian dating app "Holy" in December of 2024. The two quickly bonded over their shared love of the Lord. After many long calls and conversations, they met half way in Hattiesburg, MS, for their first in-person date. Since then, they've added countless miles to their cars and minutes to their phone bills.

Travel Recommendations

We recommend flying into Jackson International Airport KJAN, about an hour from Vicksburg, if you are not within driving distance. Flights to KJAN can be expensive, so we also recommend checking New Orleans International KMSY, about 3 hours south of Vicksburg, and Memphis International KMEM, about 4 hours north of Vicksburg.

Staying in Vicksburg

We recommend looking for an Airbnb or a traditional bed and breakfast near Vicksburg if possible. There are several lovely options within a 10-minute drive of the venue. If those aren’t available or don’t fit your plans, the hotels listed below are good alternatives. If you choose a different hotel, we suggest avoiding Jackson and any airport-area hotels. For those open to a longer, scenic drive, Madison, MS has some very nice hotel options about an hour away via the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Brick Street Market is a laid-back downtown café known for its fresh po’boys, flatbreads, and salads, plus homemade desserts that are worth the stop. Riley likes the veggie po'boy!

The Biscuit in downtown Vicksburg is known for its hearty Southern breakfast and lunch dishes, including biscuits with smoked brisket, fried catfish, and breakfast sandwiches. Jacob liked (get this) the biscuits.

Vicksburg National Military Park offers a beautiful blend of history and scenery, with over 1,300 monuments, restored cannons, and sweeping views of the Mississippi River. Guests can drive or walk through the battlefield, explore the USS Cairo gunboat, and enjoy peaceful trails surrounded by nature while learning about one of the most pivotal Civil War sites.
