Carl and Rilie met at orientation for graduate school at Marshall University to study speech-language pathology. After the orientation, all of the students attended a get-together at a pool party to socialize and get to know each other. While at the pool party, Carl and Rilie spent the better part of an hour chatting&nbsp;(really Rilie was scoping him out). Carl felt an immediate connection, however Rilie needed a little bit more time to come to her senses. During their first semester, they were fortunate enough to have all their classes and clinicals together. They became fast friends and spent many weekends together; Rilie made&nbsp;Sunday lunch for everyone during football season. On the Sunday after Thanksgiving (2016), Rilie and Carl made plans to eat dinner together and decorate her apartment for Christmas. Carl was exceedingly patient and moved all of Rilie's furniture around, until it was exactly the way it started!&nbsp;Rilie knew she didn't want to decorate for Christmas with anyone else, and she immediately realized Carl was the most patient and kind man she had ever met. By December 10th Carl and Rilie made their relationship official, and the rest is history!

Our Story

A few weeks before the proposal, Rilie mentioned that she wanted&nbsp;to go on a hike to Natural Bridge in Kentucky. This is Rilie's favorite hiking spot and she wanted to share it with Carl since he had never been before. Carl had secretly asked Phil for his blessing&nbsp;about a month before the hike when they were in Dayton to celebrate Rilie's brother's birthday. Rilie had suspicions that Carl was going to propose soon, but she had no idea when it would be.&nbsp;Carl&nbsp;threw Rilie off his trail because he asked one of their friends, Brittany, if she would want to join them (she declined the offer). Rilie and Carl decided they wanted to try and make it to Natural Bridge to see sunrise, so they left Huntington at 4:30 AM and headed out for their adventure! They got to the trail in plenty of time to make it for sunrise, but once they got to the top of the bridge, it was too foggy to see the sun! They both laughed at how much the situation reflected the rest of their adventures together, and they decided to keep walking around in hopes that the fog would burn off. They walked over to a smaller area of the trail and while reflecting on their relationship, Carl got down on one knee to ask her to be his wife,&nbsp;of course, Rilie said "YES!"

Rilie and Allison met at Marshall University while working in Residence Life together. They immediately became soul sisters when they realized that they could bond over loving HGTV, cookie dough, and shopping. Ali and her husband, Colin, regularly hosted game nights where Rilie and Carl frequently went together. Rilie can't wait to have Ali standing by her side through this exciting season!

Julie and Rilie have been friends since preschool, however their friendship really blossomed when they started dancing together for the&nbsp;Creekettes. Julie has always been a constant friend in Rilie's life and&nbsp;reminds Rilie to&nbsp;make the most of every situation. Rilie is so thankful to have Julie to walk through in this exciting journey!

Brittany was in the same clinical as Rilie and Carl and has watched their relationship grow, she especially knew something was up when Rilie started taking Carl's side. Rilie can't wait to have such an amazing friend to stand by her side!
