The beach of Rita's childhood. It is located 15 min from Alcobaca.
"This is the beach in Portugal that retains the more colourful fishing traditions, and it’s not uncommon to encounter fishmongers who still wear the traditional seven skirts. (...) Facing the sea on the right, you will see an impressive headland. This is Sítio, which provides one of the most famous views of the Portuguese coast."

The biggest waves happen during wintertime. Thus is it unlikely to see the giant waves, but you can still visit and appreciate the power of the Atlantic Ocean. If you would like to know more about this phenomenon visit this page: https://nazarewaves.com/en/Home/InfoForTourists
A new record was broken this winter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIXbZPHLv2o

"Maritime beach | The sands here continue for an approximate 3 kilometres forming a shell shape around the sheltered bay that is home to São Martinho do Porto Beach. The calm sea represents the perfect conditions for both children and nautical sports such as windsurfing, sailing and canoeing.
The town, which was founded by monks from the Alcobaça Monastery in the 13th century, expanded significantly throughout the course of the 20th century becoming a much sought after and appreciated summer resort. The town further has a series of reputable restaurants specialising in local gastronomic specialities such as steamed lobster or stuffed spider crab."
This beach is approximately 10 min north of Nazare. You would take the beautiful Atlantic road (https://start-adventure.com/what-is-the-atlantic-road-or-estrada-atlantica/?lang=en). This road follows the coastline and provides access to various not-so-touristic beaches like Praia da Legua, Praia do Vale Furado, and Praia das Paredes da Vitoria.
"Praia de Vale Furado Beach is flanked by a complex of yellowish and reddish clayey cliffs. The erosion in those cliffs is quite marked and presents very unusual shapes, giving this way the name to the beach. The access is very steep, but has been considerably improved to guarantee the safety of the swimmers." https://www.portugaltravel.org/praia-de-vale-furado-beach-alcobaca
"The mediaeval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal.
Quite close to the capital and located on high ground near the Atlantic coast, Óbidos has had a strategic importance in the territory. It had already been settled prior to the Romans’ arrival in the Iberian Peninsula, and the town prospered after being chosen by the royal family. King Dinis offered it to his wife, Queen Isabel, in the 13th century, and it became part of Casa das Rainhas (Queens’ Estate), who improved and enriched it throughout the various dynasties. This is one of the main reasons for the high concentration of churches in this small place.
You will find a well preserved castle within the walls, and a maze of streets and white houses that are a delight to stroll amongst. Along with the Manueline porticoes, the colourful window boxes and the small squares, many fine examples of religious and civil architecture from the town’s golden days provide a host of reasons for making a visit."
"Foz do Arelho is a special place because its ocean feeds into the Óbidos lagoon (Lagoa de Óbidos) — the largest saltwater lagoon in Portugal — creating two distinct beaches. There's really something for everyone. The lagoon is perfect for families who want calm, kid-friendly waters, but also for the active beachgoer who wants to do stand-up paddle or even kitesurf on a windy day.
Over at the main beach, you can swim and surf in the waves or just relax on the long stretches of white sand. Expect cold waters, even in summer. This part of the Atlantic Ocean doesn't warm up much. The lagoon can warm to a more comfortable swimming temperature during low tide." https://www.liveluso.com/post/travel_guide_foz_do_arelho_portugal
