Our Wedding

We met the modern way—on Bumble. As Kristen likes to say, she was “bumbling for a skier.” After a brief but easy phone chat, we decided to meet in person, keeping things simple with coffee on Main Street in Boonton. On a chilly November Saturday in 2018, Rob arrived first at Boonton Coffee and stood toward the back of the café, surrounded by a quirky mix of tall chairs, benches, and stools—none of which seemed to match. We ended up choosing a short, square beanbag stool and a tall barstool. Kristen took the lower seat, Rob took the higher one, and we spent the next hour chatting up and down at each other, talking about the usual first-date topics—our kids, our work, our hobbies. Something clicked that day—something that made us both want to keep talking. That first date was followed by several phone calls, and soon Rob asked Kristen to dinner at The Pig &amp; the Prince in Montclair—a cozy, romantic spot that quickly set the tone for what was to come. We met at the bar, and Rob carefully ordered Kristen’s favorite drink—club soda with a splash of cranberry and grapefruit, a lime, in a stemmed glass with no ice. Check—he got it right, and the date was off to a great start. As the evening went on, we shared more about ourselves and our kids—only to discover, to our surprise, that we both had daughters named Mia. By the end of the night, we shared our first kiss. After those first few dates, we naturally started spending more time together, enjoying hikes, bike rides, and drives along winding roads—basically any little adventure Rob could find, and Kristen was happy to join. Over the years, our time together on the slopes—at Mountain Creek, Killington, in Utah, Colorado, and Mont Tremblant—have become some of our favorite moments. And our time at the beach, with Kristen lounging with a book in hand and Rob on his surfboard, have brought us both a sense of peace and relaxation that is truly priceless. Our shared love for adventure, both in snow and sand, eventually led us to the next big step, our engagement. We worked together with our jeweler, Aydin, to design a beautiful ring. Rob asked Charlie and Maxine for their blessing, and they were happy and supportive. Rob says he feels like they have truly welcomed him into the family over the years. He also checked with all the kids, and they gave a thumbs up, as well. He picked up the ring and held onto it for about a month, waiting for the perfect moment to ask Kristen. In late August of '23, he planned a romantic dinner at the Shipwreck in Brielle to propose—but Kristen foiled his plan. After spending the day on the beach, she had student appointments and didn’t feel like getting ready afterward. So, instead, we decided to order in and enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner at home. Kristen was still in her bathing suit from the beach, and I was perfectly comfortable in my sweats. Between bites and trying to make Netflix work, and before it got too late, Rob unceremoniously popped the question and presented the ring. It was simple, heartfelt, and perfect in its own way. We can’t wait for our family to join us in celebrating this next adventure together in June.
