Meeting again was a total coincidence that unfolded over a couple days. It started one Friday night in July when Sammi and Alex went to John and Robby's place for a bonfire. When they arrived, Sammi noticed a jet ski in the driveway, and John explained it belonged to his roommate—Robby, who happened to be out of town on a work trip.

On Saturday, John and Robby spent the day boating on the Ohio River with some friends. They were attempting to go home when John dropped his keys in the river. After John tried to swim down and find them with no luck, Brandon dove down in the dark and miraculously found them. So of course they all decided to celebrate by hopping back on the boat and heading to the Tiki Bar. Once there, they ran into Sammi, Alex, and Mac.

At the bar, Robby and Sammi started talking and everyone was dancing. Sammi asked if Robby would take her out on his jet ski sometime. He warned her it would most likely break down, so they'd have to paddle back, which she laughed off as a joke, but he was completely serious. They were having a great time until Alex and Sammi went to the bathroom. They told the guys where they were going, but apparently no one listened because when Alex and Sammi returned from the bathroom, everyone was gone except Mac. At some point, the guys realized the girls were gone, and they felt like it was time to pack up and head home. Robby was sad about Sammi's "Irish Goodbye", and Sammi was crushed—she hadn’t wanted the night to end and felt an unexpected emptiness at not getting to spend more time with Robby. She knew right then he was someone special that she needed to see again.

Robby was scheming on what to say to Sammi next in order to see her again,. He messaged her on Facebook a couple of days after the bar, and they went on the jet ski date about a week or two later, and from that point on, everything just fell into place.
