Robin & Drew's Story

Some love stories begin with the will of the cosmos, ours not so much. Our love story began with our legal writing teacher’s belief in organizing groups in alphabetical order and the basic human instinct to want french fries.

Drew and Robin were put in the same small legal writing group during their first semester of law school, simply because their surnames, Langan and Liu, were close. Before the first group meeting in the basement of a library, Drew messaged the group asking if anyone wanted food from Chick-fil-a. Without hesitation, Robin asked for French fries. This simple exchange turned into more back-and-forth for food, which of course eventually resulted in a first date at Durham’s southern-Spanish fusion restaurant Mateo.

From a long night of laughs at Mateo to weathering COVID, Drew and Robin decided to change their post-law school plans of moving to Chicago and London to planning for a future together in DC. In the remaining years at law school, the two would spend time exploring the west coast, driving along the California coast and seeing drum circles in Robin’s home town of Portland.

By their third year of law school, Drew and Robin realized that their life would be incomplete with the addition of a small kitty. Their kitty, formerly Tootles but renamed Grace Kelly (she also accepts Gracie or GT), was adopted after their 3L winter break trip to Utah. Gracie would spend her first few months with the couple sitting innocently on Robin’s Russian homework. Although Drew devoted significant energy into teaching Gracie to walk on a leash, she stubbornly refused.

After graduating, Drew and Robin took a summer trip to Europe, where Drew finally understood how good German beer is. The couple currently resides in Washington DC, working as big law lawyers. On the weekends, you can find them running around the farmer’s market trying to find the perfect loaf of bread.
