Q + A

When did you meet?

Andrew and Rosali met in 2015 at Lowell High School during the Mill City Show Choir Festival. Rosali visited Lowell High as a member of Andover High School's all-girl show choir, Nothin' But Treble. She was so excited to participate in her first year of competitive show choir and make friends as she traveled around the Northeast with her choir. Andrew, similarly, was also participating in his first year of competitive show choir. Except, this competitition was his host competition. In the exciting process of welcoming schools from all over the Northeast and Midwest, he met me.

What was the first date you went on?

Our first date was to a drive-in theater in Milford, NH. (We recommend everybody have this experience at least once, by the way.) We were supposed to see Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, but had no idea that a different movie would be playing beforehand. To our surprise, we sat through an entire showing of The Bob's Burgers Movie-Musical. Regardless of the unexpected change, it was still a wonderful night... And no, we didn't stick around to see Doctor Strange. By the time The Bob's Burgers Movie-Musical ended, it was way too late to stay for another 2-hour-long movie.

What was your first time travelling together?

We took an 8-hour road trip for Andrew's birthday to see his favorite band, Set It Off, perform in Baltimore, MD. After some trouble finding the venue, we finally arrived, and everything seemed to be going smoothly. But a couple of songs into the set, a girl in the crowd had a seizure. It was really alarming, and even though she was okay in the end, it reminded us of that Travis Scott incident, and after seeing something like that, we just couldn’t get back into the concert mood. We decided to leave and headed to Washington, DC, where we ended up having a great weekend with our friend Deanna, enjoying some amazing pizza, sightseeing, and riding scooters around the city.

How did Andrew pop the question?

Let this be on record; Andrew had a plan to propose at midnight, but was rushed by none other than his future Father-in-Law (In his defense, the grandparents were getting sleepy LOL). Andrew had planned this musical chair-esque game where there were boxes filled with a random assortment of items, except for one box, which contained the ring. He had gotten her whole family in on the idea of letting himself and Rosali win, up until the final round. During the final round, Andrew would let her win and she would open the box and find the key to the rest of her life. The game part happened exactly as planned, despite being rushed by four hours (which we're laughing about as we write this), and even though Rosali was super suspicious about why he let her win, she was so overjoyed to be surrounded by family during this special moment of her life.

What are you most excited for in marriage?

As funny and "disappointing" as it might seem, the thing we're most excited for is the mundane. While experiencing our honeymoon, getting our own place together, having kids, and witnessing all their milestones in real time will mean the world to us, it's the small, repetitive actions that often go unnoticed in our daily lives that matter most. The days when we simply sit down to watch a movie or come home after a long day at work—these moments, spent together day in and day out for the rest of our lives—will show us just how much love we truly share. That is what we most look forward to.
