Once upon a time, long, long ago in 2014, there were two high school students who formed a close friendship, which grew stronger and stronger as each year passed. There Names were Ruan and Megan.

As time went by and their friendship grew they realised it was time to try a family vacation together. In 2016, Ruan took the plunge and joined Megan and her family on their annual family holiday to Namibia. Little did they know this was the start of many adventures together, that would result in lots of memories and an intimate bond with the Namibian landscape.

Ruan braved the baptism of fire, meeting Megan’s Namibian family one-by-one and even managed to earn himself the affectionate nickname “Saamloop”. Exploring life together, they returned to Namibia again in December 2017 where Ruan decided it was time to move to the next level - literally – and made Megan climb a mountain where exhausted but finally at the top, he asked her to be his girlfriend – officially! Relationship Test #1 passed their love for each other continued to grow.

Their love survived rugby in Kimberley, seven years of study, COVID-19 and another three Namibian family trips. They shared countless adventures, laughter, love and even some tough times together. Waiting patiently for Megan to finish studying (some thought it would never end), it was finally time for another Namibian holiday. This one would forever change their lives, on 23 December 2023, after a romantic (as romantic as it can get with the family in attendance), Ruan took a knee and proposed to Megan. And the rest, as they say, is history!
