Ruth and Sebastian have know of each other since their freshman year at Taylor University. Both living in Breuninger Hall, Sebastian and Ruth had seen each other around campus, and in the classroom. On many occasions they would both end up in a game of sardines in Euler, or playing the infamous KrogerBall in the Breu front entrance. But it wasn’t until the ending of their Junior years at Taylor when Sebastian and Ruth would begin to take a little “extra” notice of each other.

After serving a year on the Breuninger Hall Residential Assistant team together, Ruth began to come to Sebastian’s front desk hours in hopes of getting to know him a bit better.

It just so happened that though nothing occurred between them that year, God had different plans for the summer. Ruth’s family had tried to plan a trip to Maine for many years, but had been delayed for various reasons. In the summer between their Junior and Senior years at Taylor, Ruth’s family finally had the opportunity to go on their Maine trip, and it just so happens that they were to stop right along the Saint Lawrence river, 45 , minutes from the Bayles family home. Ruth, her twin Marjorie, their brother Jacob, and his wife Molly, all came up to the Bayles lake house for a day of rainy water fun.

It was then that Sebastian finally had an idea that there might be some mutual interest between him and Ruth. When they finally got back to the Taylor, they quickly began games of Spike Ball and before long they went on a classic Taylor “pick-a-date”.

By October they were “officially” dating, and the Lord blessed them with many family interactions, an important detail for both Sebastian and Ruth.
