Everyone knows of the football player/cheerleader relationship that happens everywhere, the "match made in heaven." This is not a story that follows the typical pattern that the relationships in the movies depict, however it is one that was never seen coming, but is clear as day.

Luke came to Huntingdon chasing a dream of playing college football, earning a degree, and eventually coming back home to Greenville. And if you have ever met Luke or been around him long enough, you learned pretty quick that he genuinely loves the game of football.

I came to Huntingdon chasing a dream of cheering in college. One that allowed me to stay home, while also going to school and earning my degree. And if you have met me or listened long enough, you will soon realize that the game of football usually sneaks its way into conversation.

Football, a game that seemingly brought us together in some form or fashion. A cheerleader and a player. That is where this story leads right? Wrong. Although we knew each other for four years, both of us were either too shy or too oblivious as to what was right in front of us. That is until the annual senior trip at Huntingdon College rolled around.

Of the five or six trips that were offered to our senior class, the odds of going on the same trip with everyone you hoped to be with were rather slim. But God has His reasons, and has His plans. Sure enough we ended up on the same week-long trip to Hawaii. A trip that we all thought would be a "one last hoorah" and a sad goodbye when we all departed ways one last time. But for us, this was simply, "Hello."

It did not take long for us to learn what made the other laugh, what the other enjoyed, what the other valued, and what the other envisioned for their own life. And simple enough, the stars seemed to align right in front of our eyes. After much laughter and a couple late-night, heart-to-heart conversations on our hotel balcony, it was obvious that this feeling for each other could not end on that trip. When we returned home, one date led to another. One family meal led to a second, and a third, and a fourth, and eventually a regular occurrence.

After about six months of dating, I had to leave to chase my true dream of becoming a nurse through UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. Through the year I was gone, we faced trials and tribulations. But it did not take long for us to realize that no distance or schedule would get in the way of what we had built.

Just before I graduated nursing school, Luke popped the big question, bringing this story to the modern day. This is our story up until now, but this story simply will never be over. The story of something never seen coming, but clear as day.
