Three years ago Ryan had a different outfit and a different title. He wore the collar as a Catholic seminarian. Chelsea was beginning what would turn into a 2 year adventure as a missionary. "Brother" Ryan worked with the missionary men. There was a training course for all the missionaries and that's where they briefly exchanged respectful handshakes. After that course, Ryan went to work in Chicago with the missionaries, and Chelsea was sent to the Philippines. In that year Ryan discerned out of the seminary and made his way to Dallas. That summer they would meet again for a mini missionary reunion at Chelsea's parents house in Houston. Chelsea was focused on her upcoming final year in the Philippines and Ryan was wisely taking a six month sabbatical. Chelsea's parents had a hunch that something might transpire between the two. Interestingly, over this weekend they both realized their common interest in Theology of the Body, and would keep in touch during that year on that topic. Ryan gave excellent advise to Chelsea for the classes she taught in the Philippines. Eventually, Chelsea would invite Ryan to Fiji for a TOB mission, and Ryan accepted. Meanwhile Chelsea finished up her mission year and moved to Dallas the following May to start PT school. Ryan was living and working there as well. They had their upcoming Fiji mission trip to talk about, and they strengthened the friendship they already had. One thing led to another, and he finally asked her to be his girlfriend. They fell in love more and more each day, and it became clear what God was asking of them…to get married, start a family, and help each other grow closer to God. Because of their love for TOB and common devotion to Saint Pope John Paul II, they are choosing to get married on his feast day, October 22, 2016.
