Once upon a time, a love of singing and dancing to parody songs brought together a girl and a boy. In 2021, Morgan was directing freshman follies tryouts when Ryan, a junior, jokingly auditioned with a song from Pitch Perfect (and nailed it!). Fate stepped in later that semester when our sorority and fraternity were paired for VR, an annual show where every grade participates. Morgan took on the role of choreography director, and Ryan joined the cast. After months of rehearsals and Morgan getting used to “bossing him around,” a friendship sparked, and our friends started to notice.
Soon after, a road trip to Nashville for Ryan’s fraternity formal gave us the perfect chance to get to know each other. We spent the drive playing 20 questions and couldn’t believe we hadn’t met sooner. The friendly date party invites kept coming, and when friends suggested, "Someone needs to go on a date with Ryan," Morgan volunteered. Soon after, Ryan caught on and officially asked her out. Those first few dates led to one unforgettable night at Lake McMurtry in Stillwater, OK, where we stargazed, listened to music, and played a game we called “truth serum,” where each of us had to ask five questions and answer honestly. When Ryan got to his fourth question, he said he “ran out of questions” and asked if he could kiss her. She said yes, and after she shouted, “HE DID IT!” into the empty lake. A week later, Ryan officially asked Morgan to be his girlfriend on November 13, 2022, and she happily said yes. However, the fifth question was still a mystery.
Fast forward to July 13, 2024. Morgan was on a Bible study retreat with friends, retelling the story of that first kiss. As they drove to a lake for a prayer walk, she looked up and saw Ryan waiting on the dock. The same dock where they had their first kiss. Morgan sprinted to him, laughing and maybe crying, “What are you doing here? It’s girls’ weekend!” Ryan smiled and said, “I think you know why I’m here.” He reminded her that he’d only asked four questions that night at the lake, and he was ready for his fifth: “Will you marry me?”
Spoiler alert: she said yes (and shouted, “HE DID IT!” one more time)! We’re so grateful for God’s hand in every part of our story and thrilled to celebrate this next chapter with you. Thank you for learning about where it all began and remembering who started it all, God!
