How It Happened

Ryan was taking too long and I threatened to kill him.

Haha jk!

It was the 28th of September and we were headed to Colorado to celebrate my best friends wedding! On our roadtrip from Texas we picked up our good friend Yece who was gonna be the wedding photographer! A couple of weeks prior to this she had kindly asked me if Ryan and I could do a couples shoot with her so she could get used to posing couples/wedding pictures. I said sure! I was prepared to do some lowkey pics so she could be more comfortable behind the camera. We started our journey to Colorado and I realized I did not plan an outfit for the Photoshoot and honestly kinda forgot about it.. (I was worried about getting to my bestie and being the best maid of honor I could be!! I wanted to be there promptly and asap! This was my best friends wedding weekend, I didn’t want to drag this along!) So, Yece tells us we’re stopping at a park on our way up and it’s 30 minutes out of the way.. in my head I’m thinking uhhh no because I need to get to Paige and it’ll put us an hour behind. So, I shoot it down (later found out this basically made Ryan and Yece poop their pants because I ruined their plan) lol! Thankfully, Yece pivoted (because she’s amazing) and we found a place in Durango, CO at a local park. We literally stopped at a gas station to change. I had to wear my backup bridesmaid dress and I went barefoot! Hello???? But we made it work. She was casually taking pics of us and I was lowkey trying to make it quick. Ryan acted yawn-y and tired of taking pics (all an act I found out later lol). Yece tells us to turn around for a shot that looks like we’re checking out the scenery, so I did.. in that small window of time, Yece handed Ryan the ring. She asked me to “turn around for a better angle” and when I did, Ryan was on one knee!! I was truly shocked and so happy inside. I did not expect him to do it at a time we were celebrating our friends’ marriage! However, it was 2 days before their wedding and he asked them if it was okay with them — to which they said — “go get our girl, we’re ready for this to happen!!” So… that’s why my nails were done haha. Wasn’t expecting it at all but so worth the wait and I was truly and honestly surprised! Then, we got to celebrate with our closest friends in the beautiful mountains of Colorado! Dream come true!!!! (And might I add, way prettier than Louisiana or Texas - THANK GOD!)
