Q + A

What time does everything kick off?

The ceremony will begin at ____. We ask everyone arrive no later than ____ as entry will not be allowed once the ceremony starts. A cocktail hour will follow at approximately ____, and reception will begin at ____. The venue will be starting to break everything down at ____ and asks us to depart at that time.

What accommodations do I need to plan for?

A reserved and discounted block of rooms will be available on the link to the Delta Hotel on Shore Drive under the name Ratliff. You can fly into the Norfolk International Airport which is about 10 minutes away from the hotel. If you are driving yourself, there is a parking garage attached to the property. We will have transportation arranged to take guests from Delta to the Canterbury, but the Canterbury has free valet parking if you are not a hotel guest or wish to drive yourself.

What is the venue like?

The venue, Westminster Canterbury, is a large, garden area with beach views and a sea wall. The ceremony will take place at the sea wall so we will be in front of the beach but not on the sand. The venue has lots of garden spaces for photos, and the interior will be decorated according to the color themes. The venue asks we stay outside and/or on the ground floor, as the high rise is home to apartment flats.

What is the dress code?

Is beachy-classy-casual a thing? We want everyone to be comfortable yet elegant. For women, a dress or jumpsuit would work, along with sandals or small heels. For men, anything from khakis and a button up to a breathable suit would be acceptable. Please no shorts, jeans, hats, or t-shirts. We ask that people stay within the color scheme of light pastels or neutrals, and avoid shades of white typically reserved for the bride.

Are children invited?

While we love your children, only the two children in the wedding party will be in attendance. Outside of them, we have decided to keep our wedding an adults only event and appreciate your understanding.

Can I take pictures?

For the ceremony, please put all phones and cameras away as it will be an unplugged ceremony. Our photographer will capture all the important moments throughout the weekend, and we will share the photos when they are ready. We want the photos to reflect our promises to each other and the support of our friends and family, not a cell phone blocking the aisle. The bridesmaids have been authorized to confiscate phones they see during the ceremony. Any other time during the weekend is fair game!

Can I bring a plus one?

There is a limit on the guests we can invite and cannot accommodate a plus one for everyone. If we have allowed you a plus one, we have listed their name or “plus one” on your RSVP. If you feel we left out someone important, please let us know, but understand our limitations might mean our hands are tied.

What will the weather be like?

Virginia Beach is a little unpredictable, but typically late August you can expect to see high of 80 and low of 60. Only the ceremony will be outside, and later in the afternoon. Everything else will be indoors. If weather doesn’t cooperate, the ceremony will be inside as well or under the covered patio at the venue.

Are there any plans for the morning after?

Yes! On Sunday morning, the couple and parents will be having brunch at the Delta. All wedding guests are welcome to come join.
