Ryan and Ashley first met in December 2022 at Hyles-Anderson College when they were placed in the same summer tour group. As they traveled and sang in churches together, they became close friends. Ashley admired Ryan’s character, especially his gentleness and kindness toward her. Although Ryan also appreciated Ashley and enjoyed getting to know her, they were not allowed to date due to the tour contract. During a baseball game in Colorado, Ryan realized he wanted to pursue a relationship with Ashley someday—but he kept his feelings to himself. When tour ended, they returned home for the rest of the summer, and Ashley remained unaware of his interest.

In the fall of 2023, they returned to college, but their busy schedules kept them apart. Ashley was still hopeful about Ryan and prayed that, if he was the one God had for her, he would pursue her in His time.

Back at school, a college dating event called Christmas Lights was announced. Ryan wanted to ask Ashley but wasn’t sure if it was allowed. He received permission from the tour supervisor and soon after, found the courage to ask her. He caught up with her one evening after a basketball game and invited her to the event. Ashley was completely surprised—but happily said yes!

Their first date in December went wonderfully, and their relationship continued to grow. On Valentine’s Day, Ryan shared his feelings with her, and around Ashley’s birthday that spring, he officially asked her to be his girlfriend. After the semester, Ryan returned to Oregon and Ashley went back on tour. They stayed connected through regular phone calls, and later that summer, Ashley visited Ryan in Oregon. During a walk on the beach, Ryan told her he loved her.

As their bond deepened, Ryan began planning a proposal. He arranged a Christmas trip to Toronto and contacted Ashley’s dad to ask for his blessing. While visiting Niagara Falls together, Ryan proposed—and Ashley, shocked and overjoyed, said yes with a huge smile and a few excited “WHAT?!“s.
