Heidelberg Castle

The ceremony will take place in the chapel, but there is much more to see at the castle! Entry to the castle is only €9.00 (about $10.00), or you can book a tour on the website. If you decide to take the funicular instead of walking, the €9.00 fare covers the cost of entry, so you will not pay double.

The Old Town of Heidelberg starts from Sofienstrasse and brings you to the castle. In the middle there is the University Area (the oldest university in Germany), the main shopping street (Hauptstrasse) and it includes to famous Karl-Theodor-Bridge / the Old bridge.

Marktpl.

The Marktpl. is the oldest square in the city and has served as a marketplace since the city was established. The Hauptstrasse runs along the southern edge of the square and Heiliggeiststrasse along the northern edge. At the eastern end of the Marktpl. is the Town Hall and the Church of the Holy Spirit dominates the western part of the square. The Hercules fountain, which stands in the centre of the square, commemorates the enormous efforts to rebuild the city after it was sacked in the War.

Königstuhl (King's Throne)

This is a mountain peak you can visit overseeing Heidelberg. You can get here by car, bus, or using the funicular. I recommend the latter, because it is a unique experience. It does take longer and you may need to wait in lines both ways depending on the time and date. There is a kiosk with food, an area for kids to play, and various walking trails. With good weather, the view of Heidelberg and the Neckar river is beautiful.

Heidelberg Botanical Garden

The Botanischer Garten der Universität Heidelberg (2 hectares), also known as the Botanischer Garten Heidelberg, is a botanical garden maintained by the University of Heidelberg. It is located at Im Neuenheimer Feld 340, New Campus, Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany; portions are open to the public daily except Saturday without charge.

The garden was established in 1593 as a hortus medicus for the University of Heidelberg. As such, it is the third oldest botanical garden in Germany, but has moved seven times since its establishment.
