Our Wedding

Rylee and Ashton first met at a connection group mixer for Salt Company, their college ministry. After a few conversations, Ashton asked Rylee out for ice cream. They ended up having a long conversation afterward, where Rylee quickly learned two things: a lot about Ashton—and that Ashton loves to talk.   They continued talking for a while afterward, but Ashton missed some of the hints that Rylee was losing interest. As a result, things fizzled out, leaving Ashton a bit confused about why it didn’t work out. At the time, Rylee was in her sophomore year, while Ashton had just transferred in.   The following semester, their paths started crossing more often. They ended up in the same friend group, with similar class schedules, and both played spring sports. This led to more casual conversations, often arriving early to class just to talk. Before long, Ashton was back in the game!   Things took a turn when they made a four-hour drive together to Minnesota for Salt Company’s summer teams training. Both had applied and been accepted to serve overseas that summer. The entire drive was filled with conversation—though you’d have to ask Rylee, she might say she got to do a bit more of the talking this time. No feelings were officially confessed, but the spark was definitely there.   Over the next month or two, they continued chatting before classes and hanging out with mutual friends. Meanwhile, Ashton was working on his master plan. Knowing that Rylee was a math major, he figured she’d always have a calculator on hand. One day, he asked to borrow it—not because he needed it, but because it gave him a reason to stop by her house later.   On the evening of February 14th, 2024, Ashton texted to ask if he could return the (unused) calculator. Fortunately, Rylee was free, and Ashton knew it was his moment. That night, he shared his feelings—and to his relief, Rylee felt the same way. They decided to go on a date and see where things might lead.   A few dates later, on March 6th, 2024, they went for a walk at Noelridge Park between Rylee’s classes. After a couple laps, they sat down at a table. Ashton told Rylee he was ready to pursue a relationship, and that if she needed more time, he understood. But Rylee cut to the chase, telling him to just ask what he wanted to ask. When Ashton officially asked her to be his girlfriend, she said yes—though she often jokes that she basically asked herself out!   The next nine months were full of memories: celebrating Rylee’s birthday during conference tournaments, and even spending two of the first four months dating while overseas. But through it all, Ashton became certain that he wanted to marry Rylee.   On December 7th, 2024, Ashton proposed. He kept the plan secret from nearly everyone, knowing Rylee’s talent for uncovering surprises. That morning, Rylee spent time with her parents and best friend Josie, giving Ashton just enough time to decorate her room for the big moment. He then left a note for Rylee to meet him at Thomas Park—a special place where they had walked and hammocked together many times before. The wait felt like forever, but eventually Rylee arrived. They walked along the path until they reached a bridge, where Ashton got down on one knee. Rylee said yes!   Since then, wedding planning has been both a blessing and a joy—from having meaningful conversations to sharing in the excitement of their big day, and they couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with all of you. Thank you for the many ways you’ve impacted their lives!
