Powell's City of Books is a must-see for anyone visiting Portland for the first time. It's a bookstore that takes up an entire city block, is four stories tall, and is organized into colorful rooms by book genre. Best of all, they do offer used books for sale for anyone wanting to save money on their return flight read.
Portland is known as the Rose City, so it makes sense that it would have a several mile-wide Rose Garden. It's absolutely gorgeous and very close to some other famous Portland sites: The Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, and Pittock Mansion are all within a 10 minute drive.
For folks wanting to taste some famous PNW brews, look no further than Loyal Legion. They have over 100 taps of locally brewed beer and are a 10 minute walk from the Jupiter NEXT.
- 10 Barrel Brewing Company
- Stammtisch (German Food & Beer)
- Deschutes Brewery
- McMenamins (They have many locations, but Rock Creek Tavern and Cornelius Pass Roadhouse are our personal favorites for those wanting to explore the outer reaches of the Portland Metro area. The Broadway Pub and Crystal Ballroom locations are also great and the closest to the hotel)
- Pink Rabbit
- Hey Love (the lobby bar of the Jupiter NEXT)
- Urban Fondue
- Screen Door (for brunch)
- Goose Hollow Inn
- Pho Van Fresh
- Swagat
- McMenamins
- Skyline Burger
- The Old Spaghetti Factory (The original is on S Bancroft St)
- Rimsky-Korsakoffee House (only open from 7 PM - late, they do desserts, coffee, and tea, and are allegedly haunted)
- Multnomah Falls
- Horsetail Falls
- Latourell Falls
- Angel's Rest
- Dog Mountain
- The Oregon Coast (Seaside, Cannon Beach, and Pacific City have great beaches and cute towns in addition to Pelican Brewing locations, while Astoria is the biggest city along the Oregon Coast and has breath-taking views in addition to Fort George and Buoy Brewing)
- Willamette Valley Wine Country (Taste some world famous Willamette Valley Pinot Noir at some of our favorite wineries, including the world-ranked Brooks Wine. Erath, Ponzi, and Amaterra are great as well, or just head out to the towns of Dundee or Newberg to access dozens of wineries within a few miles)
- Hood River (they have great breweries with views of the water to relax in after hiking the Columbia River Gorge)
- Mount Hood (they have an outdoor adventure park in the summer with bungee jumping and an alpine slide. See Timberline Lodge which was featured in the Shining and try the famous Huckleberry Pancakes at the Huckleberry Inn)
